I see thanks for the clarifications, the electoral system i did knew, i was surprised to learn Chile still votes in paper like in the times of old, another reason to ditch those fucking electronic voting machines.
It's the only way to do it properly. The votes are on paper, you hand your STANDARD UNIVERSAL ID to the people handling the process, you're given the pen and the ballot, you go into the booth and mark your vote, you fold and seal the ballot with a sticker they give you, they cut off a tab with a serial number and put it in a secure box*, and you sign on a ledger corresponding to said number, then you place your vote into a clear plastic box, completely sealed other than the slit where you put the ballot. Then they give you back your ID.
The entire process is done in plain view of the handlers, the public, and THE FUCKING MILITARY FORCES STATIONED IN EVERY ROOM, HALLWAY, ENTRANCE, AND EXIT (other than voting in private booth, but entering it and leaving it is also in plain view) all of this is so no funny business can happen
Then they're read aloud and you can go to any voting place to witness the count, cheer, and boo, if you want. The news broadcast bits of the count from various places across the country.
Also, the people handling the process are random people who get selected by a lottery. That way there's no risk of infiltrators trying to fuck with it in any way. If you're selected and you do something out of line, that's the military right there that's gonna deal with you. No one can fuck with any machines, no one can prevent you from bearing witness of the process, no one can steal boxes of votes or modify the votes or bring in boxes of fake votes or do anything through the mail because there's ZERO mail component to all of this.
If you don't vote you get a huge fine, unless you're, like, very old or sick or paralyzed; but even then you'll see old and crippled people going to do their duty. Incidentally today there was one case of a man who went to vote with a decades old ID, because his COMMIE WHORE OF A DAUGHTER hid his current ID to keep him from voting Kast. She'll probably face consequences.
Also, did I mention the STANDARD UNIVERSAL ID everyone has, and has to have, not just for voting but for EVERYTHING?
I know it's a different kind of country and you can praise or shit on whatever you want about the US. But the thing I just CANNOT understand is HOW, OH GOD HOW do they not have a standard, universal, mandatory ID. Why the fuck are they relying on passports and drivers' licenses and other random shit?
Anyway, it's one more thing that prevents the lefties from doing electoral necromancy here, like they do over there.
*This is not to track who voted for whom, which would be a violation of the privacy principle of the system, it's just to have proof that you voted: the number next to your signature must have a matching serial number tab. The ballot, once the tab is cut off, has no identifying number.
Like I said, it's a really solid system, old school and analog, but modernized enough to work smoothly. Ask anyone from any political side, they'll tell you any and all institutions in the country suck; but the electoral service? No, our chest swells with pride for it.
