I see this all time and it drives me insane. There is a space between trans and woman. Trans is an adjective, just like short or tall. You wouldn't describe someone as a tallwoman or shortwoman so make sure to say trans woman.

"Transwomen” sounds like we're being othered. We are women who happen to be trans.

As an addendum - a big part of why this matters is because 'transwoman' is commonly used by TERFS and fascists specifically TO other us. To them it's not 'ciswomen and transwomen', it's 'women and transwomen'. Because to them, we are not real women. By using their terminology we are voluntarily ceding ground.

I used to prefer the one word version because I felt it underscored my unique experience and struggles as a woman who is trans. There are times when a subtle changes can create two meanings, such as a “wise woman” and a “wise-woman.”I also thought of it as similar to the way bell hooks chose not to capitalize her pseudonym as an act of resistance and to shift focus to what she believes is more important.

But after reflecting and observing its prevalent use in circles that hate us, I’ve changed my position on this. But I think to break down the way people use their words to express themselves into “wrong” or “right” is reductive and unproductive.

Um, shaving your underarms is not how you get to be seen as a guy. There is a very rare subset of guys that shave their underarms, and they are mostly competitive bodybuilders. Guys in American society do not shave their underarms.

It’s a locally pretty well known bridge towards the northern end of Portland, Oregon, which has a very high troon population. It’s been a site of suicides for a while, there are help hotline numbers posted all over it.
