Divorce also causes one family unit to be split into two housing units. With our current divorce rate (and also young people who are just not pairing off to begin with and living one person to an apartment), I would think that would have at least some impact on demand side of the housing market.

the part that pisses me off is that there's already a visa for the thing trump is talking about. this is NOT the purpose of H-1Bs. H-1Bs are a more permanent visa, which is already a good reason for them to be abolished, but there's already the L1 visa, which allows multinationals to temporarily relocate corporate assets to allow them to keep business flowing well. there's no excuse for these companies not to use L1s for their 'teaching' workers, or for battery construction, or any of that. but they know if they use an H-1B, they'll be more likely to keep that asset in the country long-term, put down roots, and have their entire family there.
