You might be thinking of Mormon Tea (ephedra viridis)? I remember that being told to me once but I got the impression it was more of a pioneer times thing and I don’t think it’s all that common now. There was also chickory that people drank as a substitute for coffee.

If it's a species of Ephedra shrub, it is for certain not caffeine that gives it the stimulatory properties. The American Ephedra shrubs contain pseudoephedrine, same crap found in Sudafed. That's quite the cheat considering how much more powerful it is than caffeine.
 
I don't watch that Secret Lives of Mormon Wives show, but I've seen memes making fun of it and it seems like those women guzzle Big Gulps of soda all day long.

Unfortunately for Russell, every gulp he takes must be a big one. Urgh, his dental situation must be bad enough, imagine adding six gallons of sugar water to those teeth...

Unfortunately the lawsuit thread had been veering off-topic quite a bit between case updates but I didn't want to start backseat-jannying again and sounding like a worry-wart. Maybe I should have.

Ephedra tea! That was it. It's often called "Mormon tea" specifically because it had stimulant effect but no caffeine and it didn't come from the tea plant.

No one in their right mind would use any of the American Ephedra shrubs for tea. The tannin content in them is substantial enough to be toxic. It would have to be diluted a tremendous amount to even approach safe levels.

And tannin/tannic acid is part of why "hot drinks" are against the Word of Wisdom. Not the whole reason, but part of it.

She's not great to look at for damn sure but calling her the ugliest woman in the world is an exaggeration. I have seen uglier women IRL and even more if you count some African specimens you see posted online from time to time.

Unfortunately people like the dumb jokes so they will never stop. It's not all Sargon's fault, he received engagement from an oldfag and many thread regulars gave him positive stickers so there is positive reinforcement for that behavior no matter how much Null wants to keep the thread serious business. May we be blessed with the next docket entry soon.

More likely they are just people and reflect the entire spectrum as such.

My own personal anecdote is that while I've only seen about two deaf people and one blind person online both the deaf people seemed immensely bitter and hostile while the blind person was chill. I have no idea if this reflects a general trend given the small size.

And yet the Mormons did so. Could be a variety of ephedra as there's two main types. Or maybe it's treated in some way. I honestly don't know how it's made other than it's called "Mormon tea" and you can actually buy it:
