A little late to the party here, but every single "New Yorker" who praised Curtis Sliwa and wanted him to win,
unfortunately, abandoned New York City as a whole. Do you have
any idea how many city slickers
moved to Long Island, Westchester, Jersey, CT, and so on? The answer is
an assload, probably thousands of assloads, and it goes all the way back to before Giuliani's tenure with the first crime wave. I don't blame people for leaving New York City altogether, it's a fucking mismanaged, corrupt hellhole that only barely manages to appear sane relative to Chicago, LA, and San Francisco because the latter three are far worse.
At the same time, there's a certain melancholy I feel whenever I read posts where people like
@AnitaSarsleezian talk about the history of NYC more broadly during a time before I was born. Like... damn, y'all niggas deadass lived through one of the worst times to be a city slicker, you saw shit tangibly improve, saw it go downhill again but this time in a way that's measurably worse, and decided to cut your losses and move on. Respect for the hustle, but not all of us can or want to leave I remember a ton of posters talking about how they refuse to leave California despite its problems during the wildfire aftermath earlier in the year, and it's like... I honestly feel that sentiment but on the east coast.
New York City's fucked to hell and back, there's probably a ton of better municipalities with a higher QOL and lower COL that I could afford to move to given X amount of time... but do I
want to abandon the city I was born and raised in wholesale, and spent literal decades of my life living in? Sometimes I do, but I
want to believe shit will change for the better. I ain't tryna move out east into fucking Mastic or Riverhead or Patchogue, maybe Yonkers or White Plains, or God forbid fucking Kearny because a naturalised firangi became mayor.
I dunno man. My thoughts are all over the place here. My Instagram stories are full of childhood friends, ex-coworkers, and college acquaintances from years past all doing the same thing: bitching about or praising how Mamdani won... even though none of these niggas live in the city anymore.
