New
video ass-raping Heartbound's awful game design just dropped.
I watched the whole thing in the background, so I've probably missed some things, but these excerpts from Mald's write-up on Shartbound's "design" almost read like it would be a postmortem of a genre-defining successful game, not a cookie-cutter Undertale clone, that's not even finished. I don't know when it was written, but it seems like Mald really dreamt big at some point.
And the other thing is this:
Why? I get that without padding this "game" would be even shorter, but come on, there are better ways to waste player's time than this. Like adding some actual gameplay, maybe.
Anyway, here's some (sort of related) clips from the last stream:
@00:00: "NoOoOo, no, it doesn't [look like Shartbound]". Sounds like Mald is feeling a bit insecure. Whatever this game is, it does look better than Shartbound (despide Shartbound's "raytraced" lighting). The synths sound pretty nice too.
@00:12: "I don't ever want to create a narrative RPG again, I just want to create mechanics". Neither of which are
goodpresent in Shartbound, so good luck.
@00:41: "I wanted to make [Shartbound] so that I could learn how to be a better writer, and I found throughout that process that I just don't like writing"

So people who paid for Shartbound were actually just funding Mald's education. And the result is that not only Mald failed to learn anything, but that he also hates the thing he was trying to learn in the first place.
@00:57: "I have a better way of making Kill the Moon now [...] I was dreaming about it last night, and now I know what I want to do with that game". Mald's dream game, can't wait.
