This is my thought as well. I grew up in the 90s where conservatives "family values" politicians and pundits were the fun police, and kept getting outted as gay, unfaithful, drug users, or some kind of degenerate. Male feminists from 2012 until now getting outed as sex pests is the same thing.

It doesn't even have to be religious, simply that those who virtue signal the hardest are the ones with the most skeletons in the closet. All that's changed is what group the virtue signalers tie themselves to.

I find this fascinating. Ever since goonergate, there have been religious people calling out these posers. There are still some that circle the wagons. I remember on Discord criticism of people like Jon Del Aros was verboten. Overall I notice that religious people seem to have bad grifter detectors. I don't know why.
