Well I would say the majority of vtuber fans aren't into loli vtubers, so we might be talking past each other there and the ones that are aren't exclusively into them.

This is an age old argument with people in regards to anime. Some people see a buxom blonde anime character working in an office with big eyes, a dot for a nose and rosey cheeks and say "child". Others accurately see it as a grown adult woman fitting that anime's art style.

I think for these people it's in the eye of the beholder kind of situation. Some people see those like Gura as "small woman" others see "child". Myself? I see the latter, but I think those who do like her don't get off to the idea of being with a child but being with a small "cute" woman.

People (especially older people) have been disliking anime for decades. You could take something truly heinous like Eiko and something normal like Death Note and they'll say "It's the same picture." People hate anime because they don't like the art, general style of humor, the "fan service" and the over the top character expressions.

These people aren't the ones "ruining anime" anyway, they've always been lurking in the sector underbelly. If anything, anime is becoming more mainstream in the West because most Western media (funded and created by Big Nose Inc) is even more alienating than the strange jap cartoons. If you told a man in the 00's that his future media choices was Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z type shows, or girl bosses/niggers and faggots, they'd believe the future was a desolate place.
