Several people have said Discord before and I'm inclined to agree. Their platform used to be blazingly fast and just work OOTB seven or eight years ago. It was a hail mary moment for Skype users like me who were tired of Microsoft's bullshit making the platform unusable. Fast forward to today and I constantly have issues with my audio device suddenly being disconnected and either having to physically replug it or restart my entire PC. Every time they update the client they add some new bullshit thing I have to figure out how to hide or disable.

On top of all of that, in the seven years the platform has existed they still haven't figured out an elegant way to do DM permissions. There are a million tiny little toggles and settings that all interact in completely mysterious ways. Does turning on DM privacy in a server override the account setting? When do message requests happen versus outright blocking the message? Who knows? Not Discord!
> microphone doesn't work in Discord through browser (always worked on all my PC's)
> mic. VOIP in game works, audacity works perfectly
> mic. only works with their client now

They must on purpose ruin the web version of their site so people download their spyware, and it's so bloaty now too!

I dislike dealing with HP's proprietary printer software and setup CDs that come with the current models. No, I don't want bloated apps I'll never use that would let me print cute t-shirts and other items of disinterest with your printer. Just give me a print driver that works. :optimistic:
I haven't worked with Windows in ages but you used to be able to use device manager to pull just the needed drivers off the HP cds. If you followed their instructions though and used the cd autorun program you would get your PC Goatsed with tons of useless crapware and good luck removing it all.

That seemed to be pretty standard with any new hardware back then. Anybody remember all the shitware that got bundled with cd/DVD burners?

The youtube UI.

I like to listen to a certain last century radio show. The playlist has 909 items. It says so it does, however when playing, it won't load the list. It used to be that it would load 400 items total, and it had a bug where it would not load more unless you went to the playlist's page and jumped ahead from there. Now it only loads 200, but at least it keeps loading more as the episodes advance. Except, they don't fucking advance. I don't know where the cut off is, but at around item ~500 the next item in the list won't fucking play automatically, I have to click it.
And while at the subject of autoplay. It used to be so that if a non-playlist video ended and you scrolled down to read the comments, it wouldn't start playing another. Good fucking feature, except some damned Pajeet broke it with its filthy brown hands.

Overwolf and the programs that depend on it (curseforge) are designed by worshippers of the antichrist. Pieces of shit that are sluggish and eat up half of your ram for no reason, while searing your retinas with ads after ads.

curseforge
You can install curseforge modpacks from 3rd party launcher PolyMC by clicking 'Fetch Official Launcher's Key' in Settings > Api > Api Keys, then install mods normally or mod packs from the New Instance button (there will now be a CurseForge tab on the left)

A surprising number of software that I use professionally is godawful and has been for decades with zero improvement. This is very expensive specialist software, and still you get shit like the UI being absolute and unusable garbage (can't extract data without units for further processing in one, for example. Not only does the data have units, the units are also inconsistent, making it a massive hassle to parse out the data for using it with Matlab or whatever), or stuff just not working very well. Like an optimization routine that, under some circumstances, will take 20 minutes to actually stop after hitting the "stop" button because it apparently can't interrupt optimisation cycles. It's also a software that *theoretically* should benefit very much from using GPU capabilities, but doesn't use GPU for anything but the 3D model display. It's also slow as fuck for no apparent reason. Speaking of the model display, the refresh button is right next to the clone window button, and guess what, the clone window button often crashes the program. I started using that software over 10 years ago during a student job, ended up having to use it for most of my work since then, and it has always been garbage. But it's also the industry standard and just plain shite. Good thing there are more and more alternatives coming out that are also cheaper, but it's hard to get away from an industry standard like that.
With these kind of specialist tools it's often the case that there's a really nice and powerful physics engine working underneath, but then the UI is an afterthought at best or made by unrelated people at worst. General stability of QoL don't exist because everyone using those tools has been doing it for decades and is used to a workflow. Fucking sucks.
I tested an alternative tool recently and it took some getting used to, but it was nice. If I continue in this company I'll see if we can switch to that after this project concludes.

I hate steam.
Who even uses steam chat? or their calling system? I don't want a profile to flex muh epic gamer rep. It's a privacy nightmare, both with it's DRM system, but also with account visibility.

I don't really game much anymore, but when I do, it's either pirated, or of off GOG.

I was about to go to bed and then Affinity dropped what could have been the final Photoshop killer, landed heads down into the most cucked policy to even top Adobe in shitty TOS for a software. Affinity is now "free", but you must upload your shit to Canva and not do any spicy mey mey.

If you want something better than GIMP: the worst FOSS software to exist and not crack Photoshop, use photopea or Krita (good for drawing only), in other words give it a try out of desperation for a "free" professional image editor (in the legal realm, such as for commercial video thumbnails and banners etc); just know that you need to log in at start after installing it (so the downloaded installer is useless) and for the love of God, add firewall rules to the software.

Is it entirely browser based or something?
The old Affinity suite is locally run software. I don't know what the deal is with this new version. It seems that I can run it offline (after login and then blocking everything), in the FAQ they state this:

I have to try it out properly before I can say if it's truly offline or there are some fuckery bugs that forces you to be online, Canva (the new owners) have previously made browser only stuff which is why this is worrying, who knows what is going on in the background. Worth mentioning, Serif (the devs for the Affinity suite) has their HQ in United Kingdom.

What a genius move this is, disguising control as freedom.

well, that sucks. I'd recommend 2016 Affinity Designer over anything Adobe because it made making stuff actually fun. Go pirate it.

Honestly impressive. I did not think it was possible to make Adobe look like a reasonable company that has respect for their customers.

90% of Electron apps are the worst dogshit I've ever used. Just taking up 1 gb of ram when I'm not using it, fuck off.

In the settings it explicitly states the AI functions are local. Open and save seem to be local, but there is an option to link Dropbox. So don't see where you have to upload images to their servers?

Okay, but otherwise, if you're part of the 98% of the world that uses creative applications for things other than naughty memes (in advertising, research, media, architecture, product design, manufacturing, government, business, publishing, photography, fashion, social media) then you basically have a free app, yes?
