The main thing that pisses me off about the SNAP debate is the fact that everyone who has complaints about how the system works is the fact that those of us who are disabled and are actually doing the right thing and NOT gaming the system get lumped in with those that do. Not to mention those of us who are disabled and HAVE to rely on these benefits literally have the same complaints about the Shaniqua's and Tyrones popping out kid after kid, as well as the millions of Illegals (that are somehow still here and haven't fucking left yet) that are still on the program. I've wanted them to do an actual audit of the SNAP program and Social Security programs for years, but whenever this debate comes up, you still see the same old retards who want to just gut the program entirely and fuck everyone who can't really do for themselves.
I feel for you, really, but what do you consider gutting? Only whole foods? No sugar sweetened beverages allowed?
What exactly has been stated that you think is unfair?
Especially since food pantries with no restrictions on what they hand out since they're a private entity exist.
Yes it sucks that we have to design the system with leeches in mind and make it either undesirable or difficult to leech off of, but that is reality. And although I'm sure processed food tastes nice occasionally I personally can't think of a reason why taxpayers should pay for other people to eat it, if that's what you're talking about.
Preventing people from starving and making sure they're well nourished and have access to high quality foods like meat, full fat dairy, eggs, vegetables, and fruits sure. As well as baking supplies and things like that for cakes and pies and whatever you feel like making.
Maybe that's not what you meant by gutting. I've seen some people say they should only get rice and beans and nothing else, which I disagree with. Especially since good nutrition factors a lot into mental and physical health and cognitive development in children.
Perhaps you could argue people on long term disability should get more leniency since it isn't temporary but then I'd want to see a massive audit given there's tons of people on 100% disability through the VA or people on disability for "autism" or "anxiety" like many of the lolcows with threads here (Kevin Gibes might be one but I'm not sure).
