I thought about it while reading the EBT thread, Walmart (and other mega markets and chains) were widely hated in the 90's for establishing themselves in small towns, undercutting the cost of every store in the area, and once everything was dead shooting the prices back higher than they were originally while exploiting workers in slavery like conditions.

Nowadays, at least in the little American media I do consume, those chains are just accepted, if not celebrated for selling you cheap hotdogs. What happened?

Because they've sunk their roots into the community. Everyone including Walmart are complaining about how online shopping is undercutting physical retail now

Where did all the Prequel Trilogy hate go?

I thought about it while reading the Star Wars thread, the prequels (and other franchises) were widely hated in the 00's for poor writing, shameless commercialism, and normalizing bloated budgets for films with actors reading dialogue in front of green screens and tennis balls.

Nowadays, at least in the little American media I do consume, those prequels are just accepted, if not celebrated for being enjoyable. What happened?

Every societal problem got much, much worse with even more sources of problems popping up, and all standards plummeted accordingly. It's not likely going to get any better, either.

It is like background radiation. Sure, maybe its still intense in some places but for the most part people have gotten used to it.

Malls had a time limit when brick and mortar stores were in jeopardy from online shopping.
They were a decent place to take your family at one time. Then they no longer were, and from that point on the writing was on the wall both figuratively and literally.

People just got plain used to it. And the hate was over the top anyways, and mostly came from a sort of anti-Jesusland/yuppie faggot place since Walmart was Chud-coded.

1) The idea of an Everything Store is a modern version of a general store, as American as apple pie. Hate it because it’s corporate? Well, that’s your prerogative, but I bet you buy most of your shit, willingly, from corporate manufacturers.

2) Sam Walton was Gods holiest Arkansas warrior. (I haven’t been on a chest beating South rant in a while. The first self check out store, Piggly Wiggly, was founded by a Tennessean whise grandpa was a famous Confederate general. Like soda, an unrecognized contribution.))

3) Sam Walton’s son was a Green Beret in Vietnam.

because wal-mart is noticeably cheaper than literally everywhere else that isnt a subscription place like sams club (which is wal-mart ofc lol) except maybe dollar general, especially with food, and people appreciate that after the last 5 years of inflation

Because the mom &pop stores are already gone and the alternatives are not as cool as they once were thought to be. So you might as well shop at Wommert.

There was a famous NYT article about how badly Amazon treats its employees, Amazon has been raising prices on services like Prime, and selling crap Chinesium. They have crashed and burned on the virtuous front.

Paying employees relatively well hasn't saved Target from DEI boycott lunacy. Target has also gotten more downscale so sell the same crap as Amazon and Walmart.

Well I still hate it. But only because the people. The zombies that work there are terrible, the people who shop there are terrible. The last time I tried to buy something I ended up just walking out because it was such a an annoying place to be.

Anyway, fun fact. I saw my first irl furry there in 2006.
