It’s a US-specific thing in the census and most demographic questionnaires. “Middle Eastern” is not a category so most Turks/Arabs/Persians or whatever middle easterners list themselves as “white”.

There’s also the whole Turks being prideful and considering themselves “European”, so often call themselves “white” for that reason. It’s all really dumb.
