I was thinking about the liberal reaction to the Whitehouse ballroom and I had some thoughts.
In the first place I think they are sincere in their frustration. While it might seem strange to see liberals defending tradition, if you view it from the perspective of defending the status quo it makes more sense. They know intuitively that Trump is trying to transform the country fundamentally, so they view any changes he makes as an extension of that.
But most notably, I think on a subconscious level they are afraid that Trump might actually build something beautiful and iconic, instead of something ugly and gaudy like he usually builds. Think about it. In their minds, the whole Trump thing is one ugly episode that they hope to erase by the next election. That is why they talk about arresting Trump's people after they lose power. I think they want the ballroom to be hideous so that it will be easy for them to destroy it. But if it is beautiful, there will be a lot of cognitive dissonance there. Furthermore, if it is, they will be reminded of Donnie every time they see a picture of the Whitehouse
