I mean, the East Wing itself is not even a century old. Don't get me wrong, I think historical monuments and whatnot are important, and shouldn't be destroyed, but the East Wing is not one of the core pieces of the White House, it was added in the 40s and has been renovated extensively. Moreover, the White House, more than anything, is the living quarters of the President and the First Family. As long as historical artifacts themselves or the original parts of the White House aren't outright destroyed, I don't see the problem.
