Anime, especially shounen is the most popular it has ever been. The popular shounen series, ie kimetsu no yaiba is mainstream in both the us and in Japan. Granted, the popular shounen series of today are more mature than Naruto was. The popular anime movies top box offices, and they play the anime songs on radio and in stores. It's common for tourist areas to hold collaborations with popular anime series.
If you ask some random adult in Japan, it's much more likely they will have watched jujutsu kaisen or kimetsu no yaiba, vs some more niche adult focused series. One piece was big around the same time as Naruto, but is unique in that it has been a top series for so long. What makes liking Naruto weird is that it's been out of serialization for over a decade. It's the perfect completely outdated irrelevant thing for idubbbz to bring up.

It really depends on what you define "into" as. A good portion of late 20s-30s Japanese people I know, especially parents, tend to be open fans of whatever long running manga they were into as kids, which usually takes the form of some gacha toys on their desk or a keychain, and singing the openings at karaoke. Every time the One Piece opening has come on at the Karaoke bars I've been too, everyone that's not a 45+ year old man sings along and knows all the words. Same with Slam Dunk, actually.

Buying tons of figures and stuff like that is definitely otaku shit and looked down on, but the young people in Japan I've met don't really hide their powerlevel otherwise.

honestly one of the most retarded things to me currently about idubbz is this weird shit in his stream clique. he has the dsp syndrome where he is actively banning everyone up to and including his dents, except he's gone beyond dsp and has free dogs surrounding the compound that woof and chase everyone foreign. he's so paranoid now there's this permanent suspicious shit test for everybody, new viewers, long term lurkers, nuking until leaks stop etc. he will be the most bitter, angry, shit talking little man but then have rapid fire perma bans for the most inane shit. he talks about being a streamer but perma bans half the number of his viewers regularly and is so up his ass if someone asks something like "what is your opinion about the kaya situation", well lord idubbz already answered that and lord idubbz does not need to say any more or have any more input so janny 2 is free to perma ban them.

He still hasn’t streamed on YouTube, despite it being incredibly easy to dual stream these days (even Ralph can do it).

I think that’s his emergency ripcord, but it’s a double edged sword and he knows it. YouTube pushes livestreams to the top of users subscription feeds, so you’ll have a bunch of old time subs seeing the wreck that is modern day Idubbz for the first time. His sub count will nosedive.

I’m sure he would be able to maintain some viewership over on YouTube, even if it is just rubberneckers, but everything else will take a hit.

I predict he’ll start streaming on YouTube in the new year, maybe December, money will probably be getting pretty tight around then. It will be a glorious crashout as usual.
