I think it accelerated in the tail end of the Obama years where Hillary Clinton and the Democrats basically killed every journalist that was investigating them. All that's left is the useless crap, investigative journalism was artificially selected to create a bread of cheerleaders

You can trace leftism in the news media going all the way back to the early 20th century. The New York Times ran cover for the Soviet Union in the 1930's trying to portray it as a worker's paradise while suppressing coverage of Stalin's authoritarianism and the sweeping famine that killed millions. (Look up Walter Duranty. They also made a movie in 2019 called Mr Jones about an independent reporter who uncovered the truth about the Ukrainian famine under Soviet rule and about Duranty's lies.) Many journalists and intellectuals were in love with communism back then the same way so many of them are now.
The problem with this is that it isn't an immediately identifiable frog, Pepe is immediately recognizable to the point anything can become a Pepe. They really cannot meme, they try to force everything and it's cringe. Pepe is also fun and good spirited, even when it's a literal nazi frog it's absurd and that's what makes it funny... This is just a hodge podge of OC frogs loosely based on a blow up suit a junky wore.
