The US Sub force are, with the decline of the Royal Navy, the scariest motherfuckers under the water and the only part of the Navy that still really works right. The Chinese are still trying to claim their subs are the equal of the Los Angeles-Class, which I doubt, the Sea Wolves and the Virginias scary. On the other hand, the non-Nuke boats are pretty good in the South China Sea, but I expect the Taiwanese's new subs will, at the very least, survive long enough for us to get in position. And I'd assume sell themselves dearly as the saying goes.
Amusingly, what people want with a gun ship would fit
Armored Cruisers as a concept pretty well. No one in the USN would ever want to use the word battlecruiser to define a ship class, so we'd probably just dust off the Large Heavy Cruiser designation again. But it would be enough to bully the cope navies of the world and the various pirate supporting counties.
