What did Jesse mean by this?
Is it confusing to you? Kash Patel should be scamming old people on the phone or selling magnesium supplements that cure AIDS. Putting his retarded ass in charge of the FBI is beyond laughable, beyond clown world.

someone has been waiting to get rid of Gretchen.
It's this one. I touched on this in Micah's own thread already. DC's tranny nepobaby editor wanted to give a job to his tranny friend, so he was handed the writing job for the new Jason Todd vehicle. Predictably, it sold poorly because Micah's never read a single Red Hood title and he can't write for shit. Management was probably downright giddy that he gave them an excuse to fire him, because it meant they could pull the plug on the series before it lost them any more money.

There are a lot of window-lickers at these comic book companies who somehow got it into their heads that writers who know nothing about the characters are "guaranteed" to bring something fresh to the title, when in reality they just end up butchering the characters and fucking up the established lore. I'm not saying every writer has to have read every single comic the characters they're writing have appeared in over the last fifty years, but expecting someone to have read the recent major titles involving the character is not a big ask, especially when DC negates most of their backlog by rebooting their universe every five minutes.

I agree, but I don't think that's what Jesse meant. That's why I thought the tweet was funny.

I just wish for his sake that Jesse weren't such a slave to the Hot Take Economy. You don't need to constantly have an opinion. You don't need to have an essay ready to deploy every time someone is wrong on the internet. I understand why everyone started rushing to capitalize on Kirk's death before his body was even cold but man does it feel gross.
I wish he weren't such a naïve retard, tbh. He has, what, 285 articles on how zero evidence exists for "trans" identity? He exposed the Tordoff study for essentially inventing their "results." The study purported reducing suicidality in these kids; lying about that should be criminal. He also saw how they ignored his critiques and made no corrections, all due to publicity.

His responses are still like, "Man, how do these scientists keep accidentally misreporting their own numbers? Anyway..."

Yeah, his recent episode on Taylor Lorenz was certainly educational, but he was completely unwilling to weigh the fact that Lorenz has shown an unusual willingness to lie that goes far beyond failing journalistic standards. Chorus has a lot of good reasons that they wouldn’t want to publish a contract, what’s Taylor’s excuse? But Jesse just acts like both sides of this should have equal weight even though Taylor is making the extraordinary claims while Chorus says she’s engaging in the same pattern if mendaciousness and vindictiveness that she has displayed throughout her career.

I think Jesse/Katie got it exactly right when they said that Taylor doesn't want to be a journalist, she wants to be a social media influencer. All of these feuds and backstabbings are designed to drive engagement to her social media. It's the only thing she cares about; being the most popular girl at the Cool Kids' lunch table. If that means she winds up with an inconsistent message or she stabs her friends in the back, that's a feature, not a bug. Similar people probably do the same thing.

I also like Katie's term "internet poisoning" to describe this phenomenon of needing to constantly keep posting everything.

I swear it's similar to people who get their brain fried by pornhub or gambling. Something inside will not allow them to walk away from the "Open 24 Hours" vice machine that ends up consuming their life.

A lot of online controversies among journos are rooted in professional jealousy and jockeying for position but some people are troublemakers and no consequences will make them stop. Taylor reminds me of fellow Extremely Online plus fired from WaPo journo Felicia Sonmez who could not accept repeated "Stop fighting with co-workers on twitter!" warnings from management.

It's the same thing with the Jimmy Kimmel situation - they're looking for ways out of unprofitable partnerships and these morons are handing it to them on a silver platter. They're a business at the end of the day, if they earn them money they'll find a way to keep it going no matter how much of an ass they make of themselves.

If money was the primary issue then ABC certainly went about it in a foolish way here. Jimmy Kimmel isn't an at-will employee, he has a $50 million contract that probably does not allow ABC to cut him loose quite so easily. They're still on the hook for that most likely, and will be paying Kimmel and his staff to sit on their asses. And then there's whatever lawsuit Kimmel's team is working on, he's a well known ragecase and will do everything in his power to make things tiresome and difficult for ABC and will drag things out as much as possible.

The smart thing to have done would be to simply not renew their contract and issue an amiable statement, which is what CBS did with Colbert even though politics almost certainly played a role there. If you're such a good conservative then just let the invisible hand of the market sort things out.

Of course, all of the above is irrelevant, because money was not the issue. The chairman of the FCC went on a podcast and threatened to pull ABC's broadcast license. Disney/ABC and the two broadcast companies (Nexstar and Sinclair) got spooked and preemptively pulled him. Sorry everyone, there are things I agree with Trump on, but this is censorship.

I kind of respect Jesse's dedication to giving people the benefit of the doubt long past the point when anyone else would have stopped. I don't think it's naivete; it seems motivated at least in part by optics. It serves to make the people who demonize him look all the more unhinged. Additionally, Jesse understands that he needs to cultivate goodwill even with people he comes to disagree with, because he knows that those people may someday come to be useful sources. It's clear he wants to be the first guy people in the media ecosystem people content the moment they either peak or are cancelled.

The rub of all of this is that it does make him look foolishly permissive and potentially easy to manipulate, but at least that gels well with the persona he's created on BAR.

More of a BARpod thing than Jesse, but Kiwi Farms and @Null were mentioned in the first minute of the new episode (277).

I really think he should go on, they’re remarkably cool about their threads.

I disagree with him on many things, but he is the best thing you can be in life in my personal opinion/gayass code, which is "good at your job".

Jəsse Singal did a chəəky Economist articlə again:

They keep on comparing 1 in 5 transitioned children continuing to identify as trans to a cancer treatment that saved 4 out of 5 patients, but that’s wrong. It’s not a cancer treatment that cures 80% of patients, it’s a cancer treatment where 20% of patients never had cancer in the first place. That would be a fucking problem.

What if I told you THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BEING A TRUE AND HONEST TRANNY?

Yes, I think this is why they continue to use "preferred pronouns" most of the time - even though I think it's perpetuating a big fat lie, if I wanted to be a normal journalist I would go along with it too. Sadly, it's just something you have to do in some professional contexts. There are people of Gender like Buck Angel, Erica Anderson, etc, who haven't drunk the Kool Aid on trans kids and Jesse needs to be able to talk to them.

I haven't had a look at Serano in years, clicked over.
Good god, what the hell happened to him?
Is this what they mean by "twink death"?

He's balding, looks like a middle aged man, its the worst aging-tranny I've seen since Kyle Burns or Zack.

I would not recognize that person as the perky, blond semi-passing tranny first widely published/broadcast in 2007, that they've been foisting on us ever since.
What a tragedy.

But the fact that they brought out the big guns to go after Jesse is instructive. He should be flattered.
