Regarding Kimmel and the Shit Cannings
It's with great regret that I think the classical liberal experiment in the US is dying but we have been heading down that road for a while. In the mid to late 2010 and even the early 2020s, there where numerous firings for either moderate opinions or years old social media posts.
Two prominent examples are the firings of David Shor that concluded that non-violent protests work better as burning down and looting stores tend to piss people off.
Next we have James Demore who said that men and women like different things, a different sense of drive, and have different life goals so that could be a predominant cause in a lower amount of females in tech.
In politics, we see in 2009 Obama trying to freeze out Fox News from White House events. Though other channels defended Fox News, the public reaction among the left was in support of the freeze.
We see that the FBI persuaded companies to drop the Hunter Biden laptop story. We saw them trying to limit criticisms of the COVID vaccine and other practices (such as mandatory vaccination) through media partnerships. I am sure that I could find more examples of I really wanted to. As such this slow death has been happening for a long time.
The concept of free speech has already been taking a beating from the left for decades just with a velvet glove.
Now, Trump and his administration has taken off said glove and is doing the same.
Again, I mourn what is happened but I understand it.
The left is only crying now because the tactics they have been using for decades is being applied to them.
What are we as moderates and right wing people supposed to do?
Perhaps some want to turn the other cheek, but I am tired of being a fucking domestic abuse victim.
In essence, that's what we are except in this case their is no police, at least not one that can effectively stop the abuse.
I think those truly on the left, not the useful idiots, know this. They want to exploit our love for free speech and turning the other cheek to perpetuate our abuse. In essence, to demoralize us...I can think of no better quote than the one from
Dune to highlight this point:
"When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles".
I want to believe that a civil or classically liberal society can survive such a corruption of its values but it's increasingly unlikely.
We have all seen in becoming increasingly more common.
When Scalia died, I was mortified that those on the left would celebrate his death but not understand his nuanced judicial philosophy. Rather they reveled in his death due to the brain rot of social media and confirmation bias.
Even when RBG died, I knew it was an opportunity to appoint a new Justice but did not revel in the death.
Rather, I remember the life long friendship between Scalia and RBG. Enemies in the courtroom and in the land of Judicial philosophy but friends where it mattered most.
Sadly this is rapidly on its way to be becoming extinct.
Rather, we have this rash, narcissistic, based emotions based thoughts pattern that has all been made worse by social media.
I want to believe that we are not beyond the abyss but it appears that we are. So can we fight using that tactics of old?
I don't think so.
I don't like what is happening right now but I understand it. I understand that some unpleasant things might need to be done otherwise the abuse...our abuse will continue.
My only hope is that we emerge these dark, dark times as a better and stronger nation.
