I've never understood why people shit on Basildon. It's greener and nicer than some towns I've been too. Lots of nature reserves, lakes, hills, trees and parks. It was an Anglo-Saxon settlement and has history pertaining to Watt Tyler (England's equivalent of William Wallace). It's also the birthplace of Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet and other famous people.

Your description could easily be applied to anywhere in the UK. Every town and city has its share of thick chavs. However, I've yet to see anyone here in the UK resembling the rednecks I've watched in American police videos. And the Americans have the fucking nerve to call Brits ugly.
