Not surprising, I went to a HS with a lot of Mormons. I was friends with a group of the more rebellious types. They are mostly pretty chill people but some are as unhinged as you would expect from someone growing up in a very rigid religious area. I noticed it mostly with the girls though.

Context on the Mormon thing: he was a missionary. Mormon men around 18 are conferred the title of elder while they’re working for the church to teach and bless people, and the shirt and badge are something the missionaries wear as a uniform. Doesn’t necessarily indicate zeal since most Mormon men are pushed to serve as missionaries for a few years as a normal duty. That’s why BYU has 28 year olds playing for their college teams

One thing I noticed in this thread and other social media, when I often see "hey you need to tone it down" or "you shouldn't be as bad as the other guys" rhetoric, it's almost always a Non-US fag commenting. Even in places where your identity is hidden, they give it away because they can't prevent themselves from using the wrong international spelling.

There's a group of people who have convinced themselves and each other that things like opinions, science and medicine, the legal process- anything that they don't agree with or that doesn't go their way- are tantamount to literal physical violence, even fucking genocide, and so physical violence on their part is not only justified but necessary for survival. This isn't fucking sustainable.
To be clear, I don't want violence. I like being comfortable, and dicking around on the Internet. I'm just saying that when people talk about feeling at wit's end, or as if we're on a precipice, I get it.
