People forget, or pretend not to remember, Trump was, maybe still is, not all that well liked in Utah. He's tolerated at most. Trump only received a plurality from Utah in 2016, something like 45%. Hilldawg got 27% and the remaining balance was a huge swath of the mormon cult rallying behind that obviously homosexual CIA dude McMuffin or whatever his name was.

Which sounds great, in theory. Just like the Patriot act. In reality they will probably do something like microchip and track our children. I’ve heard whispers of adding all children with an IEP to a “list”. Effectively a watchlist. Will they be allowed to own firearms, will it be some sort of social credit score?

It's like with the shrieking, spiteful mutants you see upthread. The attack on Trump last year makes a certain amount of sense. He is in the kinetic sphere. If he wins the presidency, then he has all of the ruinous power of the Federal Government at his beck and call. If you think that he's about to become Dorito Mussolini, there's a world in which you can talk your way into that.

Kirk wasn't a government official. His activism came in the form of public forum, respectful discussions with people who vehemently disagreed with him. There was no fig-leaf or plausible deniability that you can put on that. And so, after a Ukranian Refugee that got stabbed by a violent schizophrenic who had been released from custody 14 times and a self-hating troon shot up a parochial school, it began to paint a very unflattering picture to leftists about themselves to themselves. It's a picture that is very much at odds with their self-perception as "The good people who are good because they believe good things." And so they're thrashing.

I am probably more poltically mixed than you, but I had three. Not close friends, but people I had personally met, one being a former co-worker. I would imagine I would have a few more, but they dropped me over, some difference of opinion that was never clarified.

I bet if I asked some others I'd know, they would privately gloat, but it's not a topic that I wished to bring up to them. Too much like entrapment.

But it is a sickness that is right beneath the surface in a lot of people. It's been festering for years.
