His physical description matches, his car matches, he attended the university, was outspoken about Kirk at a family dinner, confessed to the shooting to his father, and his roommate provided screenshots to the law of him messaging during the shooting about what he was doing and where the rifle was. They already have a preliminary timeline that tracks his movements and it matches with the CCTV on campus.

He attended both sides, for and against Cuba, at the same time. This is documented and was used to create an issue. His defection to the USSR is widely seen as a ruse, and when he returned, he was plugged right into the CIA via his neighbors.
