There's a significant segment of the under 18 year olds that don't do social media as has been the case for the last 10+ years. They're in Snap or Discord or reddit or even fediverse instances. Hell, there might even be IRC channels floating around still (but mostly discord). But more commonly, they're just consuming tiktok and similar slop, rather than publishing. For this segment, their virtual isolation can lead to a doom spiral.

I am not disagreeing with you, but your first sentence encapsulates the point I was trying to make. Most aren’t used to seeing the execution of someone, but you can easily find this stuff nowadays with a few clicks - or it’ll find you. We aren’t living in the days of yore where this stuff is common, at least in civilized society.

Re: blinders, I really don’t think that’s what he was insinuating. Again, it sounded to me like he politely urged people to put their devices down and focus on other things rather than allowing themselves to become irrationally upset with no outlet.

All subject to one’s own interpretation, but I didn’t see this as someone telling others to bury their heads into the sand until the bad settles.
