Respectfully, with no implications being made whatsoever, would you agree or disagree with the notion that his ideology is a more extreme version of yours?
If so, do you think that's relevant?
If not, can you describe how your beliefs would be wholly disconnected from his?
1. Respectfully, with no implications being made whatsoever, would you agree or disagree with the notion that his ideology is a more extreme version of yours?
I never cared much about gender/idpol (aside from being in favor of letting them do their thing as long as they do it peacefully). In addition, I do not support Palestine. I think it’s important to mention this since these are very likely two issues where there would be disagreement between me and the profile people expect the shooter to have.
In general? Yes, I agree. The difference is that I do not condone violence to realize my political goals. Does that make the ideology itself (some form of leftism) dangerous? I believe not. Radical leftists often make the argument with patriotism → nationalism trying to prove that patriotism must be eradicated as it is a soft form of nationalism. I’d disagree here as well.
2. If so, do you think that's relevant?
Yes, I think it is. Ideologies are (part of) the context in which people radicalize. Go to a leftist meeting and depending on where you are, there will be people telling you that reforms don’t work and violent revolution is the only option – of course, this assessment is deeply rooted in leftist discourse.
3. If not, can you describe how your beliefs would be wholly disconnected from his?
While I think it’s relevant, I want to mention something that’s likely responsible for my disconnect to “revolutionaries”: Family. My parents were really progressive (traditonally speaking, unions are important and the likes) but kept their friends to this day. These include not only mild conservatives (a friend of my father is way more extreme in his views than CK was for example). They argue all the time and call each other stupid and worse, however, they still enjoy each others company. I know these people as I grew up around them. No matter how hard I personally disagree, these are my friends as well and after all that arguing drinking beer at a camping trip together is this human connection I really like. Seeing CK getting shot is like seeing one of them getting killed. Good and kind people with families and a lot to offer to the world but (in my opinion!) sometimes retarded political takes.
And this is something I’ve never disagreed with when it comes to conservatism. A loving family with good relationships to all kinds of people is something good and not fascist in the slightest.
