Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

A lot of the people just don't really understand rifles or guns, a 200 yard shot is not an easy shot, but it's routine and easy if you are a, let's say shooting hobbyist. it depends on the rifle of course, but it's a chip shot if you have a decent one and any sort of optic, but you can make that shot with a steel sight fairly easily too.

For the little it's worth, any veteran could make that shot with ease, hunters could for sure. i wouldn't put a lot of creedence in the idea it was some professional gunman, but that too depends on what you consider a professional gunman.

People also tend to forget there's a lot of veterans who are also insane lefties. There wouldn't need to be a military policy on transgender soldiers and trans medication if they didn't exist. I've seen and met many people who were part of the military who are outright fucking lunatics. They're not that rare.

People are also forgetting that the person literally murdered Charlie. If empathy was an issue for them, it's hard to imagine they would've taken the shot. It's easy to talk about how hard it'd be to take the shot when you're a rational, healthy minded individual who isn't planning on assassinating a political figure.

It's standard procedure for the authorities to release statements regarding persons of interest and suspects being taken into custody in murder investigations. For some reason, the public and media expect that. Sometimes it ends up being the guy. Sometimes it doesn't

Honestly I think I have lost all hope, when someone as mild as Kirk is a assassinated and 99% of the country celebrates, I don't think there is any hope.

The only thing you can do is keep your family home and keep them safe as the country falls apart and is replaced.

I think we really should consider trying to split up the country peacefully to at least attempt to avoid a bloody civil war that will last at least a century.

Everything I love seems doomed, I am not sure what purpose going out and doing normal things and pretending there is a future serves any more.

That area of Utah, too. I was up in Park City/Provo area last summer for hiking. Fuckload of rich people, Mormons, college kids, hunters, hikers, etc… It’s very much a “nothing happens here” sort of an area. Quite idyllic. You wouldn’t really think twice about having minimal security for something like this.

That makes it even harder right there. Theres nobody to profile and nobody thinks twice about a guy toting a rifle. He seems local but thats it.

I was horribly mistaken. There was not a shred of sympathy among them. They actually, factually, unanonimously celebrated his death, rolling in glee and mocking his wife and children. I was barely aware of the guy, and yet I felt sick to my stomach, disgusted that I had to share spaces both digital and physical with them - actual monsters in human clothing.
