Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

People on the American right have done nothing but scream and cry "WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!!!" and "I'M RADICALIZED NOW!!!" on X for months on end now whenever some incident of a white person getting killed or attacked pops up, usually followed by an AI cartoonified version of the incident in question or some vaguely aggressive quote edited on top of an """iconic""" still frame. That's quite literally all they've done and will continue to do, even as their own are getting killed right in front of their own eyes by people who openly want them dead and would celebrate it gleefully. That's the unfortunate truth. Most people on the Right, even when they say they're radicalized, will do nothing more than be wary of their contemporaries on the opposite aisle. I wish this weren't the case, as I yearn for serious change, but I've lived long enough to see crazier shit happen with no general change to the public consciousness. The average person doesn't have that rage within them. One thing that's for certain is that perhaps it'll embolden more people to commit similar acts, especially for validation from fringe political spaces.

This could lead to decades of Republican rule unless the Democrats push forward a entirely new platform.

That was a clean shot and kill. This wasn't a troon.

I could make a 200-yard shot at a head-sized target with ease as a pre-teen using my Dad's 22-250 varmint rifle. It doesn't require SWAT team sniper-level skill to pull it off. If anything, the shooter is showing a lack of confidence by taking the shot that close. That proximity--only 200 yards away-- reduced the shooter's chances of making a clean getaway.

Don't get me wrong: This could've been a professional hit, but I think the shooter is more likely an ideologically motivated amateur.

Political violence in any form is very scary and a sign that there are deep, deep flaws bubbling in a country. You have people celebrating, buying wine, sitting on their couch gitty that someone they never met and never influenced anything in their life is dead. It's sickening. It's inhuman.
