Charlie Kirk was shot at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on Wednesday.

Bystanders report seeing Kirk shot near his neck during a Q&A with students.

A suspect is in custody, according to a UVU alert sent to students. The campus is on lockdown.

Multiple reports currently say Charlie Kirk made it to the hospital and is currently stable but the extent of his injuries and likelihood of recovery isn't currently known. He is in critical condition.

Lethal injection unless the drugs cannot be acquired within 30 days of the execution date- then we use the firing squad.

The downwards shift in the 90s was the result of three strikes/tough on crime policies and was absolutely real and effective. The modern numbers are due to some combination of cooked/no reporting (likely not the primary factor imo) but more importantly the increase in emergency care for gunshot wounds and the fact that everyone has a cellphone now. I’d have to dig in the bookmarks a bit, but iirc the claim is that ~60% of typical gun homicides in the early 90s would be survivable today. Which would imply that we should be tracking shootings instead of homicides.
