AFAIK Asashi doesn't even support M3 & M4, and I doubt it's a seamless experience on anything lower.

It's pretty obvious that with these fat mentally retarded troons in charge and obstructing any real attempt to do Linux on an Apple machine, anyone with any sense will just spin up a VM.
I am a midwit who thinks it sucks that macOS sucks up 4+GB of RAM just to boot, and I like the memory savings of running Linux on bare metal.
I’m not a troon (TTD!), and I don’t want to add insult to injury by adding the memory costs of Linux on top of the massive memory costs of macOS.
It isn't very nice and it's barely functional and it can't do dick on current Apple hardware.
Not only that, it can't even take advantage of the actual nice things Macs do have. Apple Silicon MacBooks have a battery life of multiple days, with Asahi Linux it is gone within 17 hours. You'll also kill the battery for it quicker just by not having Apple's own power save mode extending the life. The Asahi Linux team can't reverse engineer the power save mode and they never will. The biometric login? They can't figure out the device and don't have a driver for it.
I think the obvious devices to install it on are the Mac Minis that are often $450-500 on sale and don't use battery power. Grabbing an x86 device instead is the correct choice for anybody sane, but maybe your elderly neighbor gives you one for free and you don't want to use Apple's OS on it.
And in a normal programming community, this would have been enough to get people interested who were capable of doing the other things. But Hector is a bitch-ass crazy troon who is completely incapable of dealing with others.

There are about 5 people still working on it. Within the past few days they rebased their changes on the 6.15 and 6.16 kernels and cut corresponding releases, and have implemented a Rust-based Apple Device Tree parser in the m1n1 bootloader.
