An active shooter situation is underway at a Catholic church in south Minneapolis.

The gunman has attacked 20 people this morning at Annunciation Church on 54th Street, according to preliminary reports that have not yet been confirmed by police.

At least four people are injured and two dead in the mass shoot out, the reports add.
Minnesota state troopers, local police, FBI agents, paramedics and a large number of ambulances have responded to the scene.

Officials at the Catholic grade school on the same grounds as the parish told Daily Mail that 'now is not the time to be answering your questions'.

Daily Mail has approached the church and local police for further information.

At least 20 people are feared to have been gunned down after an active shooter stormed a Catholic church in Minneapolis as the parish school was holding its start-of-year mass.

The shooter stormed Annunciation Catholic Church on 54th Street around 8:30am local time. A Catholic grade school is connected to the church.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least four people are injured in the mass shoot, although authorities have not yet confirmed the number of victims.

Multiple children have been taken to a nearby hospital, law enforcement sources told KARE. It is unclear how exactly how many children have been hurt.

Minnesota state troopers, local police, FBI agents, paramedics and a large number of ambulances are currently at the scene.

'I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and will continue to provide updates as we get more information,' Governor Tim Walz said.

'The BCA and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.'

Officials at Annunciation Catholic School told Daily Mail that 'now is not the time to be answering your questions'.

It is unclear if the gunman has been apprehended. Daily Mail has approached the church and local police for further information.

Witnesses claim a man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was spotted on the church grounds, though these reports have not yet been verified by police.

Parents have gathered near the church as they desperately seek answers about the welfare of their children.

'I'm monitoring reports of horrific violence in South Minneapolis. I'm in touch with Chief O'Hara and our emergency response team has been activated,' Mayor Jacob Frey said.

'We will share more information as soon as we can. Please give our officers the space they need to respond to the situation.'

1:15 p.m. - Noting the closeknit ties of families in Minneapolis, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, said so many residents of the city have ties to Annunciation Catholic. Klobuchar heard from a former staffer whose children attend the school and who knows children wounded in the morning’s gun violence.

“One of the things that people nationally don’t understand is that this school is enmeshed in our community,” Klobuchar said. “There’s shops, people. There’s a neighborhood. And that whole community suffers.”

Klobuchar said mass shootings have left a “trail of tears” across America, invoking gunman attacks on schools in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 students and two teachers were killed, and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six adult staff were killed.

12:52 p.m. - Two sources familiar with the investigation into the shooting at Annunciation Church said Robin Westman, 23, of Richfield, is the suspected shooter.

Public records show Westman’s father, James Westman, owns a home in south Minneapolis, less than one mile from Annunciation. Police were stationed outside the home, which was cordoned off with crime scene tape.

Westman’s mother answered a cell phone call crying but told a Star Tribune reporter she did not know if her child was the shooter.

One source told the Star Tribune that Westman’s mother once worked at Annunciation. The church said in 2021 that Westman’s mother provided “wonderful hospitality” in a Facebook post announcing her departure.

Well, welcome to part three of whatever. Things are swiftly moving into place. I am thinking good about Annunciation, it seems like a good combo of easy attack for me and devastating tragedy, and I want to do more research. I have concerns about finding a large enough group. I want to avoid any parents, no pre- or post- school pickup/dropoff. I think parents are super likely to have a gun or attack me with scary ferocity. Maybe I could attack an event at the on-site church. The gym at the school is in the basement so that's not an option. A Christmas concert at the church would be packed with kids, but also parents. I think my plan of attacking a large group of kids coming in from recess is my best plan. Then from there I can go inside and keep going for as long as I can. I just have no idea how many kids are out for recess at one time. I know recon on that place is going to be near impossible. I bet those staff members and neighbors are very watchful of their area. Oh! You know, I bet I can see the playground from the autozone (????????) parking lot! That means I will have to wait for school to start. (frowning smiley) That's okay, it's only a few months. If I time it right, I could be able to catch that big assembly on the first day of school! I think that is a bit too risky tho. Since everyone is outside, it would be VERY FAST, how quickly everyone would disperse. I think I should wait, do some recon, and make sure this place is worth attacking. I think I will go on a normal school day to autozone (??????) and see how many people are in the playground area. First I will need to pretend I am fixing my car so I can see what they have recess even. Then I can see the count and feel the vibe. We shall see.
