Israel says it ‘regrets’ deaths as airstrike hits Gaza hospital, killing journalists

Israel said it is investigating how an airstrike hit one of Gaza’s main hospitals on Monday, insisting it was not targeting journalists or civilians killed in the blast.

Israel’s chief of the general staff has already ordered an inquiry after multiple missiles hit the Nasser Hospital — the largest in southern Gaza — on Monday. Hamas-tied Palestinian health officials said that at least 20 people were killed, including four journalists.

“The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such,” the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement

“The IDF acts to mitigate harm to uninvolved individuals as much as possible while maintaining the safety of IDF troops.”

The military didn’t immediately confirm who the intended target was.

Among those killed in the blast were journalists who worked for Reuters, the Associated Press and Al Jazeera, according to the outlets and Palestinian health officials.

Cameraman Hussam al-Masri, a Reuters contractor, was killed in one of the strikes. Mariam Dagga, a visual journalist who had freelanced for the AP, also died. Al Jazeera journalist Mohammed Salam was also among the journalists killed, with Palestinian IDing the fourth as Moaz Abu Taha.

Witnesses said a second strike unfolded soon after rescue workers, journalists and others had rushed to the site of the initial attack.

Photographer Hatem Khaled, who was also a Reuters contractor, was wounded in a second strike, the outlet said.

“We are devastated to learn of the death of Reuters contractor Hussam al-Masri and injuries to another of our contractors, Hatem Khaled, in Israeli strikes on the Nasser hospital in Gaza today,” a Reuters spokesperson said.

“We are urgently seeking more information and have asked authorities in Gaza and Israel to help us get urgent medical assistance for Hatem.”

A strike on Nasser Hospital in June killed three people and wounded 10, according to health officials.

At the time, Israel’s military said it had been targeting Hamas militants operating from a command and control center inside the hospital.

More than 240 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since the war started on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hasn’t commented on the latest strike.

TL;DR:
  • IDF bombs a hospital they very well know is there and that they have been condemned for bombing before.
  • Multiple people killed, including journalists who are #2 on the kill list right after Hamas operatives.
  • They wait until rescue operations are underway, then bomb the rescuers as well.
  • It’s just a mistake goyim, we are deeply sorry and will investigate, and don’t forget that in many nations criticism of this action is anti-Zionist therefore anti-Semitic therefore a hate crime you can be jailed for.
  • Tee hee, send more bombs, goyim, the most ‘moral’ military in the world needs your support.

Lmao what?

All I said was the photo quality sucks and I would expect better quality from a place filled to the brim with journalists.

Not sure where I said this was a "Palestinian trick".
Well consider the Israelis attacked. Then people ran in to help/take their photos and the Jews attacked again. Then just for shits and giggles they did it again.

Kinda hard to get good footage that way. Makes you nervous.

Reminds me of the time I needed to get some dandelions out of the flowerbed and accidentally blew up my neighbor's truck. Whoopsies!
It's an inappropriate use of shells and not what was authorized.

Inquiry into the shooting at Nasser Hospital

At the center of the inquiry: Why did tanks fire at the hospital, and who authorized the shooting?

According to sources familiar with the IDF investigation, this morning during an operation by Golani reconnaissance soldiers, the troops noticed a security camera positioned at the hospital. They said the camera endangered the soldiers’ safety.

Shortly afterward, the force received authorization to strike the camera using an armed drone. For reasons still under review, the ones who ultimately carried out the shooting were two tanks that received permission to fire. Altogether, the tanks fired four shells — each tank fired two. One of the shells was recorded live, hitting rescue teams and photographers who had arrived at the scene.

It should be noted that an attack on an active hospital requires prior approval from an officer with the rank of major general, and sometimes even special authorization from the Chief of Staff. As part of the investigation, the IDF is examining who gave the approval for the shooting.

The General Staff fact-finding committee, which investigates unusual events during combat, has on its own initiative opened an investigation into the incident.

Why is it that in a place filled with journalists, the picture quality is so mediocre? You'd think we'd be getting crisp images here, and not this pixelated shit I could guess came from a 2002 Nokia flip phone?
Because it’s a crop from a zoomed out shot that was embedded in the main article.
You do know that screen resolutions can be changed as pictures are taken, capped, cropped and reposted, right?

Not that such a retarded derailing question deserves a serious answer, but there you go.

It's an inappropriate use of shells and not what was authorized.
So- murder charges for the tank commanders? Especially the one that fired on the rescue teams? Or more likely, “we can’t be sure who fired on the rescue teams, so nobody will be charged”?

We all know nobody is going to be charged and we all know CTR of all people doesn't actually care. He's just here to defend Israel and play make believe that this isn't incredibly common and is some sort of isolated incident.

Jews are murderous psychopaths who believe they're human and everybody else is cattle to be slaughtered for their convenience. No need to pretend they deserve respect or that we should lend an ear to their defense of their behaviors. Just drop all diplomatic and military support for Israel and then let the rest of the middle east go fucking ham on Israel and watch peace actually come out the other side.

We should give Iran an apology letter for Mosaddegh, plus enough nukes to cover Israel with; then tell Israel to play nice with their neighbors because we're outta there. It would be interesting to see how Israeli behavior would change when the people they're used to killing with artillery and weird distant pager bomb schemes have the ability to do Holocaust 2: For Real with a switch flip. Of course, this will never happen, just a fantasia, a thought experiment

> Go into a war zone.
> Get bombed.
Many such cases.

Suddenly Kiwifarmers cares about "journalists" (defined as any Muslim with phone).
20 dead total, in a hospital, allegedly in order to destroy a camera that was ‘threatening IDF soldiers’ and then following up with firing on rescuers who came to assist.

Are you really defending an atrocity?

Who gives a shit that it's a hospital? Nobody criticizes Hamas for using hospitals as staging grounds (thus removing any protection they deserve), so why should I criticize my country's army for targeting them?

And the idea that an army should jeprodize its soldiers for good publicity is insane, if the action was done to protect soldiers then it's justified.
