Phil has been a curated content creator for 17 years, you'd think everyone realize he knows what he's doing.
Phil is at least top 5% in SF6. I agree he is abysmal for someone with his extensive history in fighting games, and it's largely because he's lazy and too stubborn to learn. But, he's still good at the game. The bar is low here, Phil is the pits at basically every other game.
Real problem is, SF6 has a shitty ranking system, SF6 rewards you for losing and winning, its hard to derank in SF6, you can get to master with a 40 something percent winrate, and to stack that pile of shit onto that, there's even more dumb master ranks, just re-work your whole system, i'm not going to even speak on the retro collection he plays, just play fightcade coward.
IIRC, SF6's "real" ranking system doesn't actually kick in until you get into master and get a real Elo score. Phil always bailed once he brute forced a character to master on every platform. And his Elo was mediocre to just plain bad when he did play characters there.
You know he certainly wasn't going to return it.

Its pointless to compare dsp to literally the entire playerbase though because 90% people who've played the game probably booted it up for a weekend and then never touched it again. I would hope Phil is better than all those kinds of players. If it was limited to just players who put at least 100 hours into the game, phil is easily in the middle of the pack.
He always looks like the Squidward frown when he's in gamer mode.
He would drown early in pools if he ever tried his hand at EVO. He brute forced his way into his rank, which doesn't mean much in most games these days, and any time he struggled he jumped ship to another console version like a coward. Hell, if my memory serves me right, PoP wasn't a fighting game player and he learned the game only to smoke Phil multiple times. I would put Phil somewhere in the top 25%~30% because any time he's met with something different he folds like a bitch.
I wish but i don't see it, he's more and more prolonging game play molding the dents to support early and without game play and it's working and i think it's obvious thats what DSP really wants in the end. He's gonna eventually sit there and just yap and the larpers and dents r just eating it up and doing as told.

This. You can get to master in SF6 with just a characters BnBs. Phil has no offense/defense on wakeup, no match up knowledge, no option selects, no footsies, no mix ups outside of drive rush throw/strike. He even thinks the game has a priority system lol. You can get to Phils level in 6 months. He's also the literal definiton of a pattern player. Only reason why he appears good at fighting games is due to their initial learning curve. Learning fighting games is like learning an instrument. Phil is the equivelent of someone on youtube badly covering a song. Sure he can play, but he has no creativity and no understanding of music theory
