This is the ferret room. I estimate it to be about 400 sq ft (when I'm home I'll try calculate it more accurately). Shelters for 60 ferrets seem to be upwards of 1000 sq ft, at an absolute minimum, but again we need to look into it more.

Should have removed the existing carpet from the get-go, then put plastic sheeting down, then put some proper substrate down - I dunno what exactly Ferrets should have, but there's gotta be something. If you're gonna sacrifice the entire space to them, might as well go all the way, and they'll be better off for it. They get something more natural to run around on and dig up, and it'd probably look really good on the stream too. Could use a full sized plastic shovel to scoop it out whenever its gotta be changed. Or a sacrificial shop vac, if you've accepted that everything is going to smell like shit and piss forever and just want to be lazy about it.
I am not familiar with carpet/american houses, but doesnt the piss make the woodframe and etc rot? It should smell like a homeless camp in the whole house
I've worked with guys who've done work in these houses with excessive animals. It doesn't matter if it's concrete or wood. That shit and piss will stink that shit up and ruin it. Subflooring will be made of wood if there's a basement. That carpet is fucking ruined underneath unless they're doing regular weekly deep cleanings.
