I think what infuriates people more about Ian seemingly becoming little more than Anisa's political talking point Golem is that despite Anisa being behind most of the influence. It's almost in her nature to be like this. To be obsessive and insane, and not even having a single grasp of even the most basic points of what she considers her "side'. Anisa only acts this way because she knows that it's a way to get people to side with her. She flutters between ideologies, content styles, and interests. I wouldn't even call her a 'fake geek girl'. Because despite how fedora-core the term is, Fake Geek Girls at least put the barest minimum of effort into cosplay, or the shallow part of an interest that they picked up to be part of an in crowd.
Anisa has no true beliefs, besides that she is the center of the universe, and deserves attention. She's willing to say, do, or preform any action for it. Because it's her perpetual dragon to keep chasing. She married Ian to use his platform for more of that high. Ironically, her own abuse has twisted Ian so much that he's clearly a person she doesn't like anymore. He's spineless, noncommital, and doesn't even have opinions of his own it seems. It's clear she resents that. But she's trapped herself. No one who's got any idea of online presence will take her. Because they've seen how she treated Idubbbz.
Idubbbz, meanwhile, doesn't have this greek tragedy of nature going on. In fact, he has literally nothing going on. His own coping mechanism was to shut down and just kinda nod his head to what his wife wanted. PPP was pretty on point with that assessment. What he failed to mention is that Ian's very inner personhood has been stripped from him as well. It's emblematic of abuse, sure. But now he's basically a sockpuppet for Anisa's worst takes. Allowing his fake tradwife protection while she farms free karma from her dogshit baking skills.
This culminates in the main reason people are so fucking mad at Ian compared to his wife. The passive lack of effort. He doesn't know anything, he seems proud he doesn't know anything. Proud that he doesn't even have the most minimum level of charisma to spout the easiest talking points in the world. Taking the safest positions imaginable. This is not an amatuer ready to learn, it's someone who revels in their banal ignorance and uses it like armor. There's no effort to comprehend any good faith question thrown his way.
Like, as someone who enjoys debate, I'd try and gauge Ian's ideas of liberty. Or his stringint nature of protecting the party line. But it'd be a waste. I could approach him with a question like "What are your stances on gun restrictions, with the knowledge that many firearm bans were made to persecute minority groups. Like Native Americans, and in Ronald Regan's case, the Black Panthers?" I'd get some fucking tripe that barely commits to the first part while ignoring the possible challenge of the second.
In short, what makes people mad at Ian is that he used to be interesting. But now he can't even put in the most basic effort needed to grift politically.
