People who are down on their luck aren't the ones who are living under overpasses and sitting outside of McDonalds all day asking for $10 every other hour.

And, with the existing social support programs plus their own social networks, they don't tend to be homeless for long. A surprising number of normal people will have a few months period of couch surfing, car living, or shelter living in their lives just because shit sometimes goes wrong, but they get their feet back under them. If you're not desperate for your next crack hit and don't let your pride and ego get in the way, its already a solved, if somewhat miserable, problem. Even prolonged homelessness tends to manifest as a six to twelve month period.

The true year upon year or lifestyle homeless are there by choice, even if the choice isn't really theirs to make (addiction, etc). Most of the places willing to put you up will immediately kick your ass if your perceived to be a danger to the shelter or the other residents. Same goes for friends and family. Just because its not easy for them to stop, doesn't mean they're not responsible for fucking it up for themselves.

You'd solve 80% of the problem by just not letting criminals go. Actually charge them, slap a bail price, and off you go. If they skip out after posting bail once, they'll be back in front of the court within three months easy, and then you deny bail that time. That's it, that's all it'd take, you can't have repeat offenders when you remove the potential repeat offender.

The problem would quite literally be solved by just actually enforcing the already existing rule of law. This is why fishing around for some other "solution" is a fools errand, because it won't be enforced either, and for the same reasons.

The other 20% of the problem gets solved by retards who pull a gun in response to knowing they're actually gonna get charged, and get themselves promoted to statistic.

I, for one, welcome the federalized police DC experiment.

The city I live in has fallen to the homeless. My drive to work at dawn every day is like driving through a fucking zombie movie. Shuffling, mindless, addicts congregate wherever they are tolerated. Every fucking street corner, offramp/onramp is populated by people obviously fucked up on something and begging for cash walking in traffic. Go grocery shopping at 8am on a sunday? Guess what, you've got a gauntlet to get through between your car and the front door of people wanting shit, or just laying on the sidewalk where they passed out 3 hours earlier after getting their fix.

I used to have sympathy for these people. Like honest to god socialist levels of sympathy. "Give them free housing for god sake" levels of sympathy. It was one of the parts of my ideology that wasn't tainted by my generational cynicism.

Then my city DID give them free housing. An amazing setup using a bankrupt hotel, paid for by taxpayer dollars and staffed with wraparound services, treatment, food, healthcare... all free. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS NOT USE and take advantage of the treatment services to get clean. It was everything a socialist could ask for. It solved their "Material conditions" and had the services to "make them whole again". All at no cost to them.

It took less than a year for the building and the surrounding city block to become a wasteland that no one ventured into because all the junkies would sit outside, use, shit and piss everywhere and then commit property or personal crimes to fuel their next hit. Why did it fail? Because they weren't allowed to use inside WHERE THEY WERE MEANT TO GET CLEAN INSTEAD. It closed after being underutilized and community protest The population dispersed. The area is just now returning to a habitable zone and businesses are getting ok again.

These people don't want to get their lives sorted out. They don't want to get clean. They don't want any sort of help other than help getting their next hit. They are savage, broken, sub-human lifeforms who will hapily burn your house down so they can pick through the rubble for copper to sell. Fuck these people. I say give them MORE Fent and make Narcan hard to get. Like a virus too deadly to sustain infection rates, the problem will solve itself. Yes. Many will die. But fucking hell, we've tried everything else.

The 2022 Respect for Marriage Act is unconstitutional. It violates the tenth amendment. The Federal government has no power over marriage. It is not in the Constitution, and it has nothing to do with interstate commerce. Roberts, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas all dissented against Obergefell. With 3 out of 9 justices, only two of the remaining three conservatives would need to side against Obergefell to overturn it. It’s actually not a stretch.
