Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, the President and First Lady of France, are suing the far-right podcast host Candace Owens for defamation, among other claims.

For over a year, Owens, without presenting credible evidence, has been alleging that Mrs. Macron was born a man, along with a raft of salacious allegations, which include but are not limited to the Macrons engaging in or being part of a conspiracy involving identity theft, fraud, and murder.

It is an extraordinary, unprecedented step for a head of state to take against a citizen of another country, but Mrs. Macron has told friends that these allegations, which have been spread across the globe, have traumatized her, two sources close to the Macrons told me.

The Macrons are represented by the defamation law firm of Clare Locke, which has a history of representing conservative media figures.

Owens has dedicated a great deal of time over the past year and a half spreading the conspiracies about the Macrons, including the airing of a YouTube series with the salacious claims.

Over the past three years, Owens, who has a long history of disseminating transphobic rhetoric, has increasingly fallen into a pit of antisemitism.

She has used her platform (she has millions of subscribers on YouTube alone) to spread some of the oldest and often debunked conspiracy theories about Jews and Jewish power, including dangerous conspiracies about Jews and Israelis being responsible for 9/11 and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Owens’s rhetoric is often pulled straight from that of Neo-Nazis, although she softens it for YouTube so that she does not get demonetized or have her distribution limited.

1- France has no "first lady". Jean-Michel aka Brigitte is just an ordinary citizen. The fact that they use the presidency and the administrations to help her is already corruption.

Defamation is a tort. And the US courts, both state and federal, are open to pretty much any plaintiff. The alternative would be requiring that foreigners who have grievances against US citizens file suit in their home country, which would be far worse for Americans.
