If I have to wait a couple hours and this fucker shows up on a bike, part of me is wondering how much of my free time this asshole wasted because he choose to be a contractor on a bike.
If the contractor I hired turned up on a bike I'd tell them I've chosen to go with someone else's services.

There was this "contractor" that said that he did many if not most of his jobs via his cargo bike. While is possible, it's not practical.
Makes sense that an alcoholic contractor would lose their license, be forced to commute via bike and then discover the /fuckcars subreddit.

Considering the entire subreddit is full of Alcoholics

I saw a guy yesterday on a motorized minibike hauling something behind him. At least he had a motor, but I also assumed he had a prior dui.

i don't disagree with having more developed public transport systems (streetcars, trams, etc.) and a large-scale revival of the passenger rail network, but these faggots present it in the most annoying, pompous way possible that makes it impossible to agree with them in good faith

That's the most annoying as most can generally agree but their maximalist bullshit along with sneaking in bughive nonsense is what will torpedo anything they want

Yup. Which by the way, in over-regulated bughive cities like New York, to be a plumber (or other licensed tradesman) you have to have a New York driver's license. This doesn't mean you have to drive a van, but why wouldn't you? You're not saving money by riding a bicycle, so you're both wasting your own time (especially as a big van can hold a bunch of various other stuff you might need) and money. The typical urbanist doesn't have a driver's license, because getting a license means you actually have to drive and do stuff, and perhaps realize that cars aren't bad after all. (Performative urbanists like Jason have cars, but I'm not sure if most do--for example, the "Threads Urbanist", American Footsniffer or whatever his name was, had his wife do all the actual driving.)

Maximalist bullshit is right. Parking minimums are one of their bugaboos when it comes to urbanism (faux libertarianism) but that gets undermined by demanding that tax code gets changed to price out downtown parking lots, wants street parking to disappear (for bike lanes, of course), and even advocate for parking maximums. Freeway widening--they genuinely think that more cars would just materialize if you did so. (They don't).

They'll counter your point by showing someone in Finland cycling in the winter as a gotcha rather than viewing it as an anomaly.

Oh, it goes deeper than that. A while back American Foodslut recorded some chap on a bicycle in the rain (see this post), the boomer cyclist grinned and waved at him, but the retard genuinely thought that he was happy to be out cycling in the rain.

Jason thinks a street with only one car lane is "absolute garbage:

Graphic showing four stages of a road design with a road designed for cars at the top and a road designed for people at the bottom. The final version at the bottom still has ⅔ of the space dedicated to car lanes and parking.

Also, how do you know that it doesn't have public transit. Buses can drive on normal roads and there could be a subway underneath it.

A fan says that he should tailor his message to his audience.
Jason says that he can't because the YouTube algorithm doesn't like it when he does that:

I don't believe that the average European thinks that any of those streets is "absolute garbage". Jason, as a self-employed YouTuber living in the richest neighborhood in the country, is completely out of touch with the average European.

He then boasts that his American audience has dropped by 15 percentage points:

I doubt he gained a ton of new European viewers to offset his American ones leaving, so he's probably just coping about his views declining.

Performatively saying "maths" is a candidate for his most insufferable behavior. "Math" specifically is one of the only non-British terms continental Europeans use when speaking English. It's especially obtuse because despite how much he talks about "Fake London™" you just know he's all-in on the contempt that continentals have for Britain as always being behind the curve on socialism and degeneracy, no matter how much the Blairite cargo cult vainly tries to out-cuck their neighbors in hopes that their infrastructure and healthcare will be as good as what going all-in on American tourist and luxury good export money can provide

This makes no sense. If it was strictly on a percentage basis, that 15% has to go somewhere--if that went to European viewers he wouldn't stop talking about it...so I have to assume that the missing 15% is going to India, Russia, or South America. But that introduces another question, is he really not understanding how his view metrics work, or is he buying subscribers from third-world shitholes and then when the number of legitimate viewers (often American) drop off, he's using that as a win?

I would assume that he is buying viewers since it's obviously not Europeans, and if he had a chance to brag about how Russians, South Americans, and Indians are learning about urban design and how to "fix" their cities he wouldn't stop talking about it.

@Thrak, who joined a few months ago points out that Jason is being performative with his language, but the whole "single lane is garbage" thing is performative too. Amsterdam-Centrum's streets are seen as the pinnacle of urban design, and they have only one lane in each direction with no dedicated mass transit lane. He doesn't complain that many have Amsterdam's streets have two or even three lanes in each direction if there's a nice red-paved bicycle lane paralleling it.

The small number of Indian urbanists that seldomly come up are hilarious because they're stuck in a impasse where they are both too poor to own a car and their transit infrastructure sucks as well. They literally have the worst of everything.

India literally has shit in their streets, I don't care what they have to say.

Oh he can fuck right off indeed. Not all Euros are rabid transit and bike spergs. Most of us are actually normal. Yeah, we are happy to use the bike as transport and enjoy being able to walk to many places, but it's not like we'd go somewhere where it isn't like what we're used to and be like "ermagerhd how can these poor people live like this? It's absolutely horrible, where's the transit, where are the bike lanes??".
We got artery roads in cities, too. There are many places in Europe with shitty bike lanes, no bike lanes, or even no side walks. And no good transit systems. Not everywhere is Amsterdam or one of the nicer metropole areas.

Around 2022 there was something that was signal-boosted by the urbanists about some Ukraine refugee either noting or complaining about the lack of sidewalks in whatever city she was re-settled in. I'm not sure what the original context was (I want to say it was just noting the differences, but I could be wrong), but the urbanists took offense on her behalf anyway.

edit: nope it was disingenuous bullshitting by some ungrateful "refugee" who should be deported at the minimum

I'm not urbanist, but anyone who disagrees or doesn't like sidewalks is a fat retard whose opinion shouldn't matter. If your urban/suburban planning doesn't account for foot traffic, it has to share the road, and no car driver wants to be stuck behind a 70 year old pedestrian.

If the 3rd world has sidewalks, then Americans have no excuses for not having them.

I had to look up the original post, the original Tiktok video was out in some semi-rural highway somewhere with no buildings in sight (and even then, not going in the right of way, actually walking on the road). And that's assuming it wasn't framed to put a sidewalk just out of sight.

It's bad enough that urbanists will outright lie when trying their beliefs, it really grinds peoples' gears when we're bankrolling a war and let you stay in our country, and you have the gall to push that shit.

Most roads have shoulders large enough to walk on if needed but its usually better to keep on the grass. The third world has sidewalks in places that aren't needed because they waste money on being retarded not because they are intelligent.

Have the r/fuckcars people ever expressed an opinion on drive-in movie theaters? I'm betting they would absolutely despise the concept. It's a shame those theaters are a dying breed.

A shoulder is not nearly safe or as intentional as a sidewalk, you aren't nearly as safe from vehicles on a shoulder. Don't be contrarian about a good thing just because urbanists like it. I don't want to have to drive around random pedestrians, and as a pedestrian, i don't wanna increase the risk of getting hit by a vehicle. There is no good argument for wanting people and cars on the same stretch of road.
