I think this is the real issue most of the anti-initiative people have in understanding it; they may not believe the industry on everything but they do believe that these games MUST require support, and devs can't provide it forever. It's just an unfortunate reality!

You have to have a certain familiarity with the medium and a level of critical thinking to make the realisation that the current business practice is not "support the game as long as we can then move on," it's just flat out planned obsolescence. They stopped providing customers with the tools to support their own software like they used to and forced them to connect to company servers because it's beneficial for their business model to keep control over when you have to stop playing so they can sell you the next game. Some people are so used to planned obsolescence that government regulations imposing basic functionality like doesn't make any sense to them.

I'm convinced at this point it is some indian marketing firm hired by the lobbyists. The arguments always miss the point and try to misrepresent what the initiative is, it's always the same lies based on things people generally agree on (indie good, communism bad).

Edit: Also notice how the contrarianism spiked once we crossed the 1m mark. Some was always bound to be there, but it was minimal. Now you can easily see it in many places and always using the same half-truths.

Well yeah, that's c-suite's job. Game Devs are underpaid because we are at the ass-end of the game dev gold rush, so now there are too many of them and not enough roles to fill.

Now if we're going to talk about contracting 3rd party studios in Singapore or India, or H1B workers, that's a different story. That's more than just shrewd, cold business- that's treason. And because the third-worlders drive down the salaries, the only western people that DO get hired are bottom-barrel swill. Sad state of affairs.

the uptick is contemporary with the release of a statement from vge yeah this could be it but it also entirely possible people just bent over once they saw the vge reply thinking it's an actual goverment or something
 
I was looking into Jason's youtube vod today to have a look at his hissy fit over the coding Jesus vid, so I know he was streaming. Went back a moment ago when he finished and the vod is gone, like he made it private. The lastvod on his page is the 'Developer' stream from yesterday.

The idea that vague laws are good laws is wrong and even dangerous. We see this in healthcare, but what would "Stop Killing Games" care about medical care and law and how governments can't put a hot dog in a bun correctly.

Disagreement is one thing. Slander is another. Harassment is another thing entirely. Trying to flood his channel with Viewbots and then harasss the channel for publicity and then blame someone for YOUR PROBLEMS. To say the movement is "dead" when it isn't.

To be so egotistically fragile you have to bee seething for 11 months but haven't acknolwedge the past decade of censorship and damage to games... then you don't care.

The abuse, the death threats. everything. Stop killing games does not care about games.

The slimiest buch of suckers. When your movment is ignoring the licencing fees of keeping car parts and radio songs... when "the Crew" had Sequels and then thinking you're entitled to cause a business that many dollars when less than 50 played that game...

That's a bit much.

I understand the concerns for game preservation, but vague law will be abused and hurt and limit what studios can do. It will add a whole other level of bureaucracy and regulators and legal time and money to be spent being compliant.

The concern about article 13 should have been a warning. The same continent that has a higher age raiting for "simulated gambling" and pokemon games losing that feature... world wide.

The same industry that bowdlerized and censored Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Persona 5 Royal. And games that can't even be made or bought and sold because of moral panics....

NONE of that mentioned by stop killing games.

But as soon as you critique them. for how the EU can get things wrong and how people can be swept up by KONY2012. They crumble in to fits.

Or how Govermnet fucks things up like with SESTA FOSTA (the law that doesn't help kids) and the SOPA PIPPA laws that wouldn't have protected copyright.

getting goverments that don't know what a lootbox is to regulate gaming to keep servers on... even if the game "the crew" had a sequel. to force gaming companies, even AAA ones to keep expensive severs running forever for live service games. to get the goverment that has no idea what a loot box is. or how the internet works. it' slike sopa and pippa.

Ross lied by editing. blames someone else for his stuff. just like a person that got really famous really quick would do.

Instead of having an NGO and coallition. To talk to developers and publishers instead of treat them as enemies. they want big brother Government to make abusable and over arching "vague law". The innocent have been punished for laws that are vague. A kid needing a licence to run a lemonade stand is law going overboard.

That was the criticism.

But some how that alone was enough to set Ross and his people ablaze with rage. Instead of trying to re work and have the long struggle of being activists. gotta blame your poblems on other people. harass and abuse.

OH and not know what you're talking bout as you slighlty twist the narrative.


And in a staggering bit of irony Stop Killing Games takes credit for The Crew being Playable again... showing there was no need for an EU innitiative to be thrust. Non consensually and with abandon.

LIke how thor said that maybe talking to creators and publishers would work. NO need for laws and goverment to mess it all up. No need to force people and have the power of government to muck it up.
