It's interesting hearing HO mention the big difference between maldy's stream voice and his voice in those irl clips and asking how no one would notice it. I have had similar thoughts in the past relating to other content (e.g. podcasts, jewtube videos), and I believe a big part of it is that it's easy to underestimate just how many people listen to this stuff out loud over shitty phone speakers.

On top of that, most people don't train themselves to listen critically (from an acoustics and sound quality perspective) and separate out all the different layers to a person's voice. People just tend to hear "Man's voice, some vocal fry, close enough in tone". You notice shit like Big Gay Notch Filters™ and early reverb reflections once you know what to look for and train your brain not to filter out those details and hand you an amorphous blob of sound. There's a lot our brains have to filter out as a matter of practicality, so this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
