I thought the same thing and even entertained the idea of using an avatar for streaming for a little bit, for lazy days/privacy. I'm not a fucking wierdo, and so when I see cute illustrations, "oh, that's cute" is pretty much as far as the thought goes. Unfortunately, some people will ruin anything (see also: what has become of My Little Pony, which was made for little girls)

And? Does that mean we shouldn't try? Things will only get better if people start fucking talking about this shit. And at least online, if you call Something Awful the start point, it's been going on since 1995; the lolicons have had the microphone for 30 years straight. They don't anymore.
 
Even after 20 or so years of furries plauging online spaces, it's still not as popular or mainstream compared to Anime. Say what you will about "Disney, cartoons, games" whatever, Furries as a brand will always be toxic because of the amount of depraved shit that gets dug up and they should keep getting their reputation stomped into the curb. Anime I'd argue isn't as notorious just because there's a sense of "normalcy" to it on its surface, kind of (you won't get as many side eyes from an anime girl doing something dumb or weird in comparison to a fur faggot inflating their dick the size of jupiter and smashing an entire town to make them coom or some shit).

It isn't that people aren't talking about it per se, it's that nobody's willing to actually burn the whole thing down. The Japs figured out they could monetize virginity and social isolation better than anyone and the West imported it wholesale.

I feel it's somewhat because it was written by a woman. Dungeon Meshi is another fantastic series with none of the usually horrid trappings of anime/manga - also written by a woman.

Not to say that there aren't some revolting series out there by female mangaka.

Contrast with Soul Eater. Which, while good, kind of had a bit too much fanservice for my liking. Some of which did creep me the fuck out on a future watch. I was about 14 at the time I originally watched it and didn't understand shit, but that cat made me feel very funny.
If you want to fuck Maka you should suckle on a shotgun whilst pulling the trigger.
