Came here to say 200k is fucking disgusting for as simple as the premise is. I don't get the appeal man. Yeah sure the whole vTuber thing is novel and all that, but 200k during a live stream? How do I get in on this without alluring pedophiles and selling my soul to Satan?

Assuming you're asking non-rhetorically:
  • Extension of idol culture, except with vtubers, the idols don't age
  • Vtubers are characters, so (related to the above), they can't have lives beyond the stream where they are still "themselves"
  • The designs are "open" enough that there are no distracting features (good for autists)
  • The vtuber community allows for finding new friends around a shared interest, something that is increasingly difficult irl
It reminds me a bit of the brony community, honestly, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if I found a significant number of ex-bronies became vtuberfags.

You're not even wrong. I'm not saying demons are real, but if we consider demon stories as warnings, vtubers do fit the archetype. They offer relief from loneliness, but it's empty and addicting.

The loli shit is revolting, I know controversial take. I didn't watch Gura though I knew of her via osmosis, and a few other Hololive talents. Was she always like this though? For some reason I didn't get that feeling from her before like I do from this.

It's unfortunately practically impossible unless you have some big model with absolute fucking massive breasts. anything smaller and the pedophiles just come out of the woodwork (as if they weren't there already). I wish said community would call these weirdos out as this kind of shit like the "child tummy erotic" is some of the first shit you see when looking into vtubers especially considering gura was seen as the face of hololive during the time she was there. Now a "kani krew" is gonna be seen as a very popular vtuber's fandom name. its a open secret what cunny means among vtuber fans but a lot will just straight up not say it cause they know for a fact it makes them look like creeps to anyone new to the hobby of watching vtubers that it actually means child pussy which is disgusting to anyone with a functioning brain.

She has always been a loli, even in her first model pre Gura. This is the most blatant, now not under Hololive. Also stream over at 83 minutes.

I used to think this is all it was, streaming anonymously with the bonus of a cute character. Never paid much attention. I really should have known it would devolve into this in the blink of an eye.

As much as i dont like the elephant not being addressed, you're correct it absolutely makes the person behind the avatar a shit ton of money cause for some reason said weirdo gooners have a shit ton of money to dole out on memberships and superchats. I guess its more of a optimistic hope that one day it'll become a big enough elephant in the room to not ignore anymore.

Only way I can ever see that happening is if it ever becomes such a massive PR issue that it effects the image of VTubers as a whole which causes a loss of income for the agencies and the largest streamers. The industry has generally proven it has an inability to properly police itself.
