To what little credit I can give them, I think even the most delusional neocon knew that boots on the ground in Iran was a non-starter by 2006. I mentioned in another thread: many of the fundy Christians I know have come out hardcore in support of even boots on the ground. They again insist there were WMDs in Iraq too, which is absurd and not only unnecessary to say with Iran but totes counter-productive if you do want us to engage them.
