I remember not enjoying it as much as Q1 since its didn't grab me in the same way. Is it worth another a try?

One of the fun-killers in Quake 1 for me was limited ammo. I had to avoid wasting much. I don't enjoy budgeting much. Quake 2's infinite ammo pea shooter hit me in just the right way, and I spent a lot of extra time sniping and strafing and screwing around with enemies. Quake 1 is still the most fun I've ever had in an FPS, but Quake 2 was a lot of fun, and iD streamlining out the "levels" really worked for me.
