Her freakout where she flipped off the camera in her little boy haircut was done while Ian was on a trip if I remember right. She also has had a few meltdowns while he's been out of town. As someone who has some experience dealing with female BPD (it's rough lol) that is a VERY common trait. If they are not involved in something or getting enough attention from their partner they'll come up with a big emergency to make their partner focus on them and drop whatever they're doing.
