You just have to look at the current fad of bad series/movies raping several franchises as "fan fiction" and it suddenly makes a lot more sense.
The nerdy never-have-been DEI hires got into the writing room, occupied HR, bullied out the last reasonable voice of resistance or accused them of sexual assault, and once they had the writing room floor to themselves they wrote fan fiction Star Wars stories with their personal identity front and center, instead of creating an appealing product for the average viewer.
And even worse is how they raped book series like The Witcher, Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time. There they deleted existing lore and rammed in their fan fiction storylines.
Alyssa has been doing the exact same thing with her journalistic IBS writing, since she went to university. She has made up narratives about culture, identity and sexuality. She lives in a fan fiction world of reality where she is the main character, every opinion on topics she has an interest in personally offends or validates her. She has been trying to revive GamerGate for the past 10 years because of her main character syndrome.
[EDIT] Just imagine a writing room in which every discussion circles around identity.
"The main character is obviously lesbian and super talented at magic and fighting!"
"How about she falls in love with a trans woman, who tragically dies in episode 4?"
"Yes, yes! And then she goes to avenge her and she can be reborn as a true woman, wouldn't that be romantic?"
"The evil nazi who tries to kill them should be a white man."
"Yes, of course. White men are the source of all evil. All good characters need to be LGBTQ+ or POC."
"Latina counts as POC."
"Yes, but only for women and Pedro Pascal!"
"How about we cast Pedro Pascal in a role?"
"How about he plays 5 roles at the same time? That way he can have extra screen time!"
"Oh wow, such a great idea. Quick dildo break everyone!"
