Somebody pointed this out a few pages back, but Ian's understanding of "empathy" seems to be "you buy into the political beliefs that claim to be the most empathetic." I genuinely don't know if he understands the concept of "feeling what the person you're talking to is feeling" at all. I think he and anus literally see it as a checklist of things you have to go down and say. There. Now you have empathy. The fact that he had to "learn" empathy at any point in his life is telling.

I think they're both sociopaths. It would explain why they have so much trouble understanding situations or putting their thoughts into words in their stupid podcast. And why they're constantly trying to fish around and find the "appropriate" opinions to have on things. They genuinely can't fathom just having there own, opinions are these things you wear like clothes so people will judge you as such.

I get the feeling that Hasan didn't want to participate in this. Say what you will, but the turk is nothing if not avaricious. He could smell this disaster from a mile away and kept his involvement to a minimum so the blowback would primarily hit Ian.

My guess: he only participated because he's tired of everyone (correctly) thinking he's too pussy to respond to Ethan's content nuke. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. Ian takes the reputational risk and he gets to pretend he's too above it all to get involved.

Ana Kasparian said that Hasan hates his audience and lives in fear of them. Hasan is surrounded by people he hates but who he tolerates because he has to in order to continue his grift. The reason he didn't bother helping Ian beyond using him against Ethan is because he knows he can safely cut the cord on him without any consequences later down the line.
