I'm retarded and don't fully understand what these tariffs are and what they seek to accomplish. Should I be worried? All the liberal minded people at my job are freaking out and based on that, I'm inclined to believe that this shit isn't as bad as they're making it out to be. At the same time, I'm also getting increasingly more worried that things might actually be as bad as they say. Though it's also possible that I'm just susceptible to mass hysteria.

higher prices = jeets can't afford to live = leave country

americans are fucked regardless and have nowhere to go, so they stay
I have bad news for you Null. As you said, what has been tried out in Anglo English speaking countries are actually trial runs for what they will implement in Murica. Same for the Pajeets.

Britbongistan comes to mind. They pioneered the mass importing of Pajeets and even had their country run by one. It is as shit as ever and the Pajeets, the subcontinentals who are the "Asians" running the sex rings refuse to go.

If the US is not going to release the tariffs on Isreal, what country is America's true greatest ally that actually deserves no tariffs?
Here is a now perhaps outdated list of countries that weren't hit with reciprocal tariffs earlier:

Putting aside the ones with sanctions (Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Russia and Somalia) and the ones with ongoing trade disputes (Canada, Mexico) that leaves Burkina Faso, Palau, Seychelles and Vatican City as America's true best friends.

You will always eat the bugs and live in the pod. The house will always win and you will love it!
If things collapse there won't be pods in the modern sense. Maybe commie blocks.
If the crash happens in a way which does not control the narrative and the populace it will probably be a biy mote interesting.

All the liberal minded people at my job are freaking out so I'm inclined to believe this shit isn't as bad as they're making it out to be, mainly because of how hyperbolic they tend to be, but I'm also getting increasingly more worried about things actually being as bad as they say. To boil it down as succinctly as possible, a lot of things in the US heavily depend on cheap overseas product and labor, so if the tariffs persist for enough time, the short term pain of it could be anywhere from mild suffering to a lot of suffering. The intended goal of these sorts of policies tends to be longer term prosperity, and increased independence and jobs within the country. How bad it will actually be, and how much prosperity it'll actually result in remains to be seen. Also, 50% of the 104% number is a lot of bluster, Trump cranked it up in response to their response to the initial raising. That 50% is unlikely to stay for very long, after negotiations (but hey anything can happen lol)

Listen no one knows what's going to happen in the long run, it's an incredibly risky play and literally everyone can see it, but some people see potential in that risk while others don't see anything positive from it. There's no telling whats going to happen it's a gamble with big downsides but also big positives.

Boomers get what they deserve for selling off our jobs to foreign nations...
I fail to see any downside. Chances of me getting a better job even if it is for a startup is now higher so whatever.

Man, indians will sooner live in the streets or share house with a dozen other pajeets than go back. You can only get rid off them with deportation, India is a literal third world shithole, their inhabitants are like cockroaches and will endure collapse of usa because it would still have higher living standards than fucking india.

You asked how the US is footing the bill. I posted the US footing the bill.
I am retarded and don't know shit about economics because it seems more complicated than chemical engineering, but I do know how to read a chart.

Russia invades Ukraine > America mostly foots the bill > America stops footing the bill > Russia takes what they want > Europe scrambles to rearm > Russia starts looking at Europe and thinking about what they want to take > Europe cannot restart formerly American trade with other countries in time to finance rearmament > ???? > PROFIT (for Russia)

This is but one of many possible futures, of course. I do not even think it is particularly likely. But what do you think?
NIGGER WHAT THE FUCK DOES THE WAR HAVE TO DO WITH GLOBAL TRADE???

Talk about moving the goalposts Holy shit.

You can get a picture of the intentions of the tariffs through the rates.

Take for example Australia they are tarriffing exports at 10% except for steel, aluminium and vehicle exports which are being tarriffed at 25%

Buying the last of my chinese junk right before the tariff kicked off something something last helicopter out of Saigon.

In all seriousness do we even have any manufacturing left to protect? Beyond specific industries America doesn't make consumer goods anymore. If tarrifs are designed to protect American industry, then what consumer industry is there even left to protect? Think about it, for example how many sneaker companies still have their factories in the usa? I can think of one and it's new balance. To make the materials requires tooling and machinery which doesn't exist. If Trump really wanted to bring back American manufacturing he would use the Sherman anti-trust act (to get the Justice department) to start breaking up monopolies. Then maybe we can talk about tarrifs.

Until Trump touches those mega-corps nothing truly will change. That is what the difference really was. Back in the day we had domestic competition, now all competitive products are made from 3 major companies who have an unofficial cartel made up so they don't really interfere with each other. Foreign brands are acting as that competition.

That's why they are able to undersell and provide a better product, because the American market has 2-3 major companies who make the vast majority of products and buy out any competition and then garage companies who really make bespoke, products and can't expand to scale.

The American government doesn't help companies get off the ground anymore. You have the left who won't give you money unless you fall into a bullshit DEI category or the right who believes you shouldn't get any assistance at all (because it would create competition). Capitalism is about competition, and the government should do everything to force it, either by "priming the pump" in a manner the older Dems did between FDR and Johnson, or selective measures like Teddy, Taft, Nixon, Ford and Carter did. Reagan deregulation only helps established companies who have enough capital to buy out any potential up and coming competition -thus ensuring they always will control (at least some substantial part of) the market in which they sit.

Europeans talking about aligning with China because the US decided the free ride is over is a ridiculous notion
I'm from Europe, I know that's a cope, the politicians know that's a cope, the americans know that's a cope, the chinese know that's a cope.
I automatically know someone is full of shit when they preface whatever expertise they have with "As a", "I am" and "I'm from" as the sole justification for their opinion.

I don't listen to women when they start a sentence with "As a mother....." for the same reason everyone should disregard yours.

The simple truth is both are big economic blocks that need to trade. By making trade difficult with the US they're going to go to the other markets (i.e. each other) in order to start bringing in revenue. The short term loss of the American consumer market will force this change. Whether people like it or not, the world moves on, it doesn't matter if you're the US, China or Mozambique, if you're no longer profitable or viable to work with people will go elsewhere.
