Both aren't Catholic translations per say, but if you want a Catholic Bible the USCCB has a list of approved translations.Hello! I have a weird(?) question about bible translations. Please bear with me because I wasn't raised religious.
I was going through old books in the house recently, and came across two bibles that claim to be catholic. My agnostic parents (both raised catholic) held on to them because of family obligations. But they both have differing translations. The older looking one says King James Version and the other one is NIV. Which one is closer to the ones Catholics use? Does it even matter in the end?
the NIV version is the catholic version, at least that is what ive always been taught. which is hilarious, when prots go off about how catholics have their "own bible", we dont.Hello! I have a weird(?) question about bible translations. Please bear with me because I wasn't raised religious.

The Greek immigrants over there will probably give you the weird eye either way. IMO less libtard oriented Catholics are generally better serving the Church in their local parishes and transforming them bit by bit. There’s a Byzantine Catholic pretty close from my house that I’ve never gone to before, I’ll probably go there for mass after Lent is Over, is their anything I should know before going? I know their in communion with Rome but I still want to be respectful to their Traditions/customs
Adding to what others have already said - the Knox translation was primed to be the go-to modern English bible in the Catholic Church before the faggots took over in the 60's. It's basically a retranslation of the Douay Rheims bible. Very readable. I believe Baronius Press still publishes it.Hello! I have a weird(?) question about bible translations. I’m more so curious than anything else. I re-affirm that the Novus Ordo is a true and beautiful formation of the mass, God exists in every rite within the umbrella of the Church no matter the culture or language and I find that very beautiful and would like to fully appreciate it.The Greek immigrants over there will probably give you the weird eye either way. The KJV is definitely not Catholic, I'm not sure why any Bible in that translation would be labeled as such. The NIV is not traditionally Catholic either.Hello! I have a weird(?) question about bible translations. Please bear with me because I wasn't raised religious.

I know this is the catholic thread and I'm protestant, but I can help you on this one.Hello! I have a weird(?) question about bible translations. Please bear with me because I wasn't raised religious.

One thing to know about Byzantine Catholics is how the Eucharist is received. While the Roman Catholic churches either give the Body via placing it on the tongue or in the hands of the recipient as an unleavened wafer with the Blood being received with the recipient taking a sip from the chalice, the Byzantines use a leavened bread as the host dipped in wine and distributed via a spoon into the mouth. I actually went to a Byzantine mass with my mother when my family went up to Virginia a few years ago. It was a very nice experience. There’s a Byzantine Catholic pretty close from my house that I’ve never gone to before, I’ll probably go there for mass after Lent is Over, is their anything I should know before going? I definitely think that shit like the Schofield Bible has been EXTREMELY fucking harmful to both the Church and Christianity as a whole, with the Jew worship genuinely being insane, especially from the Boomers and Gen Xers.Would love to hear your take on Vatican II, since that led to a dramatic shift in what is and isn't Catholic Orthodoxy. Although I'm not Catholic, a few that I've discussed theology with are pretty adamant that the Church was hijacked in 1958 and is no longer the real Church.
Although I'm aware that sedevanctists are definitely in the minority, you have to admit that claiming to be the one and only true way, the O.G. form of Christianity doesn't exactly fit well with how different the Catholic Church is before and since Vatican II. The gradual shift since then towards acceptance of things like homosexuality, abortion etc sort of lends credence to that idea, from an outsiders perspective..
When I've asked this before, most mainstream Catholics try to handwave it away, but the ones I know that are most steeped in Church history and their beliefs feel quite differently.
I’ve watched a couple of his videos and debates and he seems to be pretty knowledgeable but present pretty poor arguments sometimes. Isn’t he also a groyper?
Was bound to happen.
From what I recall, he's a convert. He's one of those autisticly "giften" bookworms who process a lot of info. But one, he's a convert, which means it takes your whole world view to get adjusted to a new reality, which doesn't always work out, se Taylor Marshal. And two, he's young and autistic, and evidently an internet meme enjoyer, which makes him cringe and unhinged.I’ve watched a couple of his videos and debates and he seems to be pretty knowledgeable but present pretty poor arguments sometimes. He's in the closet about it because optics (despite it being painfully obvious).Isn’t he also a groyper?
I think the main issue with a lot of these people is that they try to meet the dominant evangelical narrative of fire and brimstone and only stand their theology on purely reactionary matters to the current sociological and political matters, instead of the eternal promise of God to his people. The reason why I personally stay away from people who consider themselves to be traditionalists is because I believe they are one of the biggest perpetrators of abusing scripture, tradition, and the writings of saints. They are not charitable in their apologetics and thus fail to actually reach people who do not share their same world view. He's in the closet about it because optics (despite it being painfully obvious).
Most people around are quick to realize he's the kind of person nothing good can come out of associating with, which doesn't preclude the extreme internet exposure antics from being extremely funny. I think the lack of wisdom and the pathetic nerd disposition combine with unparalleled access to Church documents to make for quite the clown show, and him and his inner circle have made this routine of seething over random Catholic Answers stuff for quite a while now.
Definitely not looking forward to watching the damage these niche micro-celebrities cause to young people though, I hope people like Trent Horn and Akin get around mentoring younger guys, preferably without the emotional imbalances and spastic behavior of these 20 something Twitter e-theologians.
