I was catching up in the thread and saw this post where J wrote that she wears one pair of shoes at a time until they’re worn out. I’m the same, but for me it’s because I’ve worn prescription insoles since middle school and moving them between different pairs of shoes is annoying (obviously if I’m going hiking or have reason to wear especially fancy shoes I’ll switch to them but it’s not like I choose from several pairs of shoes as I leave the house every morning). This made me realize that I’ve always assumed deathfats go to the podiatrist and get treatment for their poor, overly burdened feet. Was I wrong to assume that? I can’t recall seeing any of the fat cows I follow mention such things but surely a lot of these people need specialized foot care. I’m sure I’ve seen people on the farms discuss how fucked their feet are but they seem to ignore it. Maybe podiatrists are too fatphobic because they have a deep understanding of how gravity affects the human body?
I suppose it’s possible that J is wearing one pair of shoes at a time because of insoles, but if that is the case I would expect her to have educated her audience about how helpful orthotics can be if you’re so fat that walking is hard. “Go to the podiatrist if you feel your feet need more support in order to withstand your tremendous mass” is genuinely important advice for these people. Being as fat as J and Corissa are is an excellent way to exacerbate flat feet if you already have them or cause them even if you aren’t predisposed. They also can’t safely have orthopedic surgery to fix foot issues (I can’t imagine it’s easy to recover from foot surgery when every step puts hundreds of pounds of stress on the surgical site), so preventing them is even more important. Even if those fat-hating doctors are incapable of treating them with compassion, they should all at least be using some kind of over the counter insoles.
