Thanks to a little bird I've been reading fatrick's books - starting with the dead earth childs - and wow... If this came from a high school student I'd give it a C -

The fact this writing is from a "published" adult is fascinating. The characters are terrible, including a super cringe self insert - the dialog is full of clichés and written very poorly. The sci-fi makes no sense and the world is un-inspired and boring.

I know it's fatrick, but I'm surprised it's this bad.

Not saying Fatrick deserves it, but in a sense of fairness, would the self insert actually be as cringe if you were unaware of how Fatrick really is and had no idea it was a self insert?

I was recently stranded in a situation where the only book available to me was some “bestseller” that was so terribly written even a high school teacher would have give it a D- at best.
